Chapter 1 She Stabbed Him in the Chest
Ling City, S Empire.
In the dark and chilly forest, Wen Muchu successfully saved Lan Xiao with the help of his soldiers wearing the Military Cross.
A hint of surprise flashed through Lan Xiao’s eyes. “Wen Muchu, thank you,” she said as she rushed to him.
Wen Muchu was a little taken aback, but he still held out his arms to catch her.
However, the next moment, what he felt was not Lan Xiao’s warm embrace, but a sharp blade that pierced right into his chest.
Holding the handle of the dagger in her hand, Lan Xiao trembled, and tears fell uncontrollably from her eyes.
Through her blurred vision, she saw the countless soldiers around her rush to her. They took out their guns and pointed them at her head.
As Wen Muchu stared at her blankly, the light in his eyes gradually dimmed.
He closed his eyes and pulled the dagger out of his chest without the slightest change of expression on his face. Blood gushed out of his chest like a spring, dyeing his impeccable white shirt a shocking reddish-purple color.
It turned out that the dagger was coated in poison.
“Don’t hurt her. Let her go…”
No one dared to disobey his order. There was dead silence all around. However, their eyes were filled with hatred. If looks could kill, Lan Xiao would be dead by now.
They had only come here to save her, but in the end, she had stabbed Wen Muchu herself. There was no better living example of the phrase “biting the hand that feeds you.”
“Wen Muchu…” Lan Xiao murmured with her eyes wide in shock.
Why was he protecting her even after she had stabbed him so mercilessly? What was wrong with him?
All of a sudden, gunshots rang out from all directions, cutting through the silence. Before the soldiers in the area could react, they all fell to the ground, bleeding from their heads.
In just ten seconds, all of Wen Muchu’s soldiers had been killed.
The splatter of blood covered the ground of the forest around them.
When he watched his comrades in arms fall to their deaths before him, Wen Muchu’s eyes flashed with deathly despair.
With the last bit of his strength, he looked up at Lan Xiao and smiled mockingly.
“You have always wanted me to die, so congratulations! Your wish has finally come true…”
Unable to hold on any longer, he collapsed and fell onto his back. The poison was too potent. No matter how tough he was as a soldier, he was still no more than just flesh and blood.
“Wen Muchu…”
A sudden surge of panic rose within her as she saw the reddish-purple blood stained his whole shirt and he fell backwards.
Without thinking, she pounced towards him and held his body in her arms.
Hadn’t she always hated him?
Hadn’t she always wanted him to die?
So why did she feel like her heart was being torn apart now?
She held her trembling finger under his nose to see if she could feel his breath, but she felt nothing. Then, she desperately moved her hand to his chest, and then his wrist. But she could neither feel his heartbeat, nor his pulse.
It seemed that the man she had hated for so many years was really dead, killed by her own hands.
At this moment, the whole world seemed to go dark and quiet, as if her head had exploded.
There was a lump in her throat, and tears continuously rolled down her cheeks.
The whole time she held Wen Muchu’s body in her arms, she was in a daze, as if she didn’t know where she was and what she had done.
Wearing a military uniform and holding a short gun, Lou Yucheng walked towards them step by step, surrounded by well-trained soldiers.
He looked down at Wen Muchu’s lifeless body with an evil smirk that distorted his otherwise attractive face.
In this year’s presidential election of S Empire, Lou Yucheng and Wen Muchu had been the most popular candidates. They had received almost the same number of votes in the election. Today was the last day for them to compete for the position of president.
The winner could take all. At this moment, Lou Yucheng had become the winner, while Wen Muchu was nothing but a dead body.
