1610 A Life Worse Than Death

Lu Xia had never felt more alive when she could finally breathe again.

She covered her neck where she could still feel a burning sensation. After calming herself, she laughed without restraint at Huo Yao as she pointed at her and said hoarsely, “You don’t dare to touch me. Even if you were to kill me, you would never dare to do it!”

Since the country was governed by law, it was illegal to kill people.

Lu Xia firmly believed Huo Yao could not do anything about her.

Lu Xia laughed so arrogantly that tears trickled from her eyes. A second ago, she had nearly died. After figuring Huo Yao would never dare to actually kill her, she was no longer afraid.

She continued laughing hysterically. Huo Yao watched as Lu Xia laughed. Her eyes previously looked murderous, but they were now completely calm.

She nodded. “You are right. I think it’s better for you to stay alive.”

She should live a life worse than death.

Huo Yao flicked her finger from the side of her body as she spoke expressionlessly.

Lu Xia gasped deeply. She suddenly detected something popping into her mouth. Before she knew it, she automatically swallowed something.

She clearly noticed herself swallowing something unknown.

The smile on Lu Xia’s face disappeared. She promptly stuck her finger into her mouth and did her best to make herself vomit.

No matter how she tried to make herself puke, it was futile.

Before long, Lu Xia could sense waves of pain erupting in her body. It was not extremely painful, but she could sense pain emerging deep from every bone in her body.

Huo Yao veered her eyes quietly and looked at the large man-made lake.

Light reflected off the lake’s surface as the wind blew and the place felt a little chilly. It was March in Country M, so it was a lot colder than back home.

Lu Xia’s face was completely pale and she even had trouble standing. She raised her head and said with great difficulty, “Did you put something in my mouth?”

Before she could squeeze an answer out of Huo Yao, the latter jumped into the lake without hesitation.

Lu Xia stood where she was with her back arched. The look of shock on her face froze as though someone had pressed the pause button.

She found it to be inconceivable. It was just a phone.

**

Wen Ping and the others waited in the canteen for 20 minutes, but Huo Yao did not return. They finally felt that something was wrong.

“I can’t get her on the phone.” Li Chenhui had tried five times and wanted to keep going.

Ying Qi came back from the bathroom. He looked at Wen Ping and Li Chenhui before shaking his head solemnly. “No one’s in the bathroom.”

“Something must have happened to her.” Wen Ping was certain of it.

Even though they had limited interaction with Huo Yao, they knew her personality.

She was not a rash young woman.

“I’m going to report this to Mr. Wu.” Li Chenhui acted swiftly.

“I’m going to talk to the university and get them to help find her,” said Ying Qi.

Wen Ping went quiet briefly. He thought about the young woman who had a hostile attitude toward Huo Yao this morning. He wondered if she had done anything to Huo Yao. He nodded and said, “Stay in touch.”

Li Chenhui and Ying Qi nodded their heads.

Before long, the three of them parted ways.

Wen Ping went to the office belonging to the teacher in charge of the academic conference. The teacher was there when he got there.

“Are you asking about Lu Xia?” After hearing Wen Ping’s description, he knew Wen Ping was talking about her. He promptly turned on his computer and found Lu Xia’s contact number in the system.

Wen Ping nodded politely to the teacher and thanked the teacher for the number. When he left the office, he nearly accidentally ran into a student rushing into the office.
