The zither was wrapped in a soft and silky cloth and once unwrapped, a dark, charred instrument was revealed with the strings and soundboard being of superior quality.

Ning Xuemo tested a few strings. ‘Not bad’, she thought while nodding her head. It was quite close to the kind of zither she preferred to use.

However, Yan Ziyuan’s complexion changed as soon as she caught a glimpse of that zither!

This…wasn’t it the zither she once used?!

Taking a more detailed look, they did look the same!

Was it a coincidence? Or was it really hers?!

That zither in question, was the one she wanted to get rid of during an impetuous moment. Because of this, she asked her maid to get rid of it. However, she herself was very afraid she would regret it, so she never dared to ask it’s whereabouts.

However, suddenly, she discovered a zither which was almost identical to hers! She felt very conflicted, as if a stone had been cast into her heart. While calming herself down, she examined the zither for a second time, feeling even more certain it was hers.

She couldn’t be mistaken! After all, she plucked it for a year, so she knew each part and string of it!

Could it be that Gu Ziyan picked it up after it has been discarded? Then, what was his intention in doing so?

In order to find some answers, she quietly glanced at him from the corner of her eye.

However, Gu Ziyan didn’t meet her eyes at all. His face was expressionless. And at most, he would cough from time to time.

Rong Yan’s expression also changed when she recognized that zither. As a result, she started to question him: “Big Brother Ziyan, what about your usual…”

Gu Ziyan carelessly interrupted: “So what? Since the zither is a Spiritual Tool, then one must take care of each kind of zither”

Were those words meant for her? Yan Ziyuan slightly pursed her lips, while a strange feeling crept in her heart.

Luckily, it didn’t last long, as Ning Xuemo started to touch the strings.

The audience quietened down as soon as they heard the tinkles.

Maybe because Ning Xuemo loved and could play many musical instruments, especially the zither, she was extremely talented in her playing.

In her past lifetime, she felt extremely relaxed and enraptured whenever she plucked the strings, as if she possessed an innate gift. Even her tutor, in her past life, was amazed by it. Moreover, not only had she surpassed her teacher in a span of a year, but no opponents could match her. It seemed that she still retained her talent, after her rebirth

If she didn’t train herself as a Special Agent in her past life, she would have most likely become a respected and well-known performer.

Anyway, the piece she was playing right now was a famous song they never listened to, and it was called 《A Moonlit Night among Flowers by the Spring River》 .

{《春江花月夜》Chūnjiānghuāyuèyè: long yuefu poem by Zhāng Ruòxū [張若虛]: guqin play + text + song}

The notes enveloped the listeners in a melodious atmosphere. A beautiful scenery slowly unfolded before them as the sound petered off.

A big shining moon.

The gurgling sound of flowing water.

Moonlight rays floating on the river.

Gleaming waves like fragmented silver.

Blooming flowers on the riverbank.

The water continued to flow, while the flowers started to wither and the moon started to fade away…

Full moon, new moon; blooming flowers, rotting flowers; newborn humans, dying humans; only the river remained the same, as if the time followed its pace.

No one dared to breath, as they were scared to disrupt such a poetic song.

Artists were the most sensitive people amongst all. Hence, musicians’ feelings were easily subjected by the acoustic fluctuations. Some of them couldn’t even hold back their tears, as if they had really been drawn into a hazy riverbank view. In fact, they could clearly perceive the passing of time and the fickleness of human lives.
