Chapter 642 – Chapter 641: The Forgiveness Of The Devil

Dudian’s eyes gradually focused as he sensed Richelieu’s arrival. He looked up at him: “How is the ceremony going?”

“It is ongoing. There won’t be any mistakes.”Richelieu bowed his head in a humble manner. He had put down his identity and was respectful towards Dudian.

Dudian nodded: “After the ceremony we will let him read out our statements.”

“I will.”Richelieu nodded.

Dudian slowly retracted his eyes and looked at the air on the ground. His thoughts drifted away.

Richelieu peeked at Dudian. He saw that there was nothing for him to do so he slowly retreated.

When the sun was getting stronger, the ceremony was coming to an end. Barton stood alone on the altar, facing the gazes from all directions. Although he was nervous, he focused all his attention on the Bible in his hand, it did not seem that awkward.

This bible was very thick, but when he opened it, there was another layer of paper. On it was the new words that the ancient language teacher had translated from the Bible last night. He had read every word correctly twice last night, at this moment, although he was a little nervous, there was nothing wrong with it.

No one knew that at such a solemn moment, the people on the stage who were devoutly reading the poetry of universal love only wanted to make no mistakes.

After a moment, the Bible was finally read. Barton breathed a sigh of relief and closed the Bible. Only then did he feel that his hands were stiff and strained. He looked up and immediately saw countless black heads, there were also the gazes of the powerful figures in the front row. These gazes seemed to be able to see through everything and see through all of his foundations.

At this moment, Richelieu led two old men dressed in snow-white robes slowly onto the stage. The two of them held a tray in their hands. On it was the Pope’s scepter and the Holy Crown. Richelieu’s expression was solemn. His footsteps were steady as he approached Barton step by step.

It was the first time Barton saw such a serious pope. His heart jumped and he was nervous. He didn’t know what to do.

Richelieu looked at the fear and embarrassment in the eyes of the youth. His heart was filled with melancholy and sadness. Although Dudian had planned this matter but he had never thought that he would be replaced as the new pope, he felt that he had let down the previous popes and the mountain that he had loved.

After a moment of silence, the church bell rang. Richelieu woke up and put away his distracting thoughts. He handed the scepter and crown to Barton.

Barton was wearing a white hat that covered his black hair. When Richelieu crowned him with the crown, he did not take off the white hat. Instead, he put it on, although people with ulterior motives would find it strange to see this scene, most people had not seen the pomp of the Pope’s succession and did not know about the traditions of the Holy See, so they did not pay much attention to it.

In the blink of an eye, Barton put on the magnificent Pope’s robe and the crown that represented the most holy of all. He held the scepter that was given to him by the god of light and stood on the high altar, although his eyes were filled with nervousness and uneasiness, however, his dignified temperament had already spread out, and the square gave out a tsunami-like cheer, which was transmitted like waves.

Seeing the cheers, Barton’s heart gradually grew confident, as well as an unprecedented experience.

Amidst the cheers, Richelieu handed the scroll in his hand to Barton, he said in a low voice, “You are now the new pope and have just succeeded the throne. According to the rules, you have to state your views on the future of the radiant church and criticize the dark church. After you have finished your statement, you should express your grace. These are all written on this scroll.”

Barton was slightly startled. He came to his senses and immediately put it away.

After the cheers ended, Barton coughed lightly and mustered his courage. He opened the scroll and roughly scanned through it. After understanding the general content, he immediately recited it from the beginning.

Countless people in the square were listening. This was also their main purpose for coming here today.

”… I announce that from today onwards, the Holy See will halve the collection of the protection tax in all places! From today onwards, all poor villages and towns can apply to the Holy See to help the poor…”Barton said in a rough voice, he wanted his words to spread as far as possible, “Second, from today onwards, pardon all criminals who disturb the governance of the Holy See and insult the Holy See within five years…”

There was a thunderous cheer below the stage.

The military general sitting in the front row, the head of the judicial branch, as well as the legendary knights in the Knight’s Hall, were all dumbfounded when they heard this. Wasn’t the first clause too generous? Halving the collection of the protection tax, how much money would they lose? ! At least it would be worth the annual income of a consortium!

As for the second rule, it was within their expectations. Most of the previous popes would give a series of pardons to the criminals to show tolerance.

“The third point is to restore the identity of the legendary genius of the temple of elements ‘Dudian’. Master Dudian was framed by the dark church. After a detailed examination, the innocence of Master Dudian has been found out. Master Dudian’s identity will be restored from now on…”Barton read, he was excited. He was worried that Dean was banned but he didn’t expect that he would be unbanned now.

“The fourth point is to launch the poverty alleviation program in the slums…”

In the blink of an eye, Barton finished six items in one breath. He put away the scroll.

The square was filled with thunderous applause and cheers.

Especially the rich businessmen and civilians who were gathered outside the square. They were excited from the bottom of their hearts. In addition to the protection tax, there were many other taxes, these heavy taxes had always been on their shoulders but now they had been reduced by more than half. How could they not be excited and cheer?

Richelieu was watching silently. His eyes were a bit complicated. He didn’t know what Dudian was thinking. He thought that Dudian would take this opportunity to raise taxes and squeeze the people dry, dudian had gathered all the wealth in his hands but he didn’t expect that the latter was the opposite. Not only did he not squeeze the civilians but gave them more opportunities and help.

He didn’t know whether the holy church was good or bad to fall into the hands of Dudian. At the same time he felt ashamed. He wasn’t as good as the sinister little devil in this aspect.

Sergei heard Barton’s words. He was relieved as he looked at dudian: “Master, your identity has been restored. You can no longer hide it.”

“The only one who can save yourself is yourself.”There was a trace of depth in Dudian’s dark eyes.
