Calm
The old man looked at Lian Jing with a smile. He knew his own grandson best.
The way Lian Jing hurried to explain and the way he looked unhappy when he heard what she said could only mean one thing. Lian Jing liked this girl.
But he could tell that this girl had a mind of her own. If he tried to meddle, it would probably ruin things.
He smiled and patted Shen Yin’s shoulder. “Little girl, I’ve been in business for many years. Do you know what is the first principle I learned?”
Shen Yin had a good impression of this old man. He was amiable and did not put on airs. He was completely different from that domineering fellow, Lian Jing.
“I would love to hear it.” Shen Yin lowered her hackles and seriously asked Old Master for advice.
The old man retracted his hand and sighed. “I once suffered a huge loss. I was young and arrogant and almost lost the entire Lian Family fortune. I paid a huge price to understand this principle. In life and in business, don’t go to extremes. Fortunes rise and fall.”
“Grandpa, I understand what you’re trying to say.” Shen Yin lowered her eyes and accepted the lesson. It was not difficult to guess the purpose behind Old Master’s words, but after repeatedly turning these words over in her mind, she suddenly realized that she really did treat Lian Jing very differently.
When it came to dealing with people and events, she had always been humble and calm. She could even be a little too cold when dealing with things, but she would not go so far as to act hostilely.
But ever since she met Lian Jing, his existence had completely broken her usual principles of interpersonal interactions. She became like a hedgehog, always pointing her spikes at him. When he approached, she became paranoid.
She looked meaningfully at Lian Jing and turned to face Old Master. She said sincerely, “Thank you for your guidance, Grandpa, but it’s getting late. My son is still waiting for me at home. I’m very worried about the child being alone at home, so I have to go. Please forgive me for not keeping you company.”
Son?
The old man looked at Lian Jing, but the latter did not react.
That could only mean that he already knew that Shen Yin had a son.
A pity.
The old man leaned back in the hospital bed in disappointment. He knew Lian Jing’s temperament. It was impossible for him to be take on a stepson.
It seemed that the two of them really were not meant to be together.
“You can visit me often in the future. You saved me, so I’ll treat you like my own granddaughter. If there’s anything Lian Jing can’t do, you can look for me.” Old Master reluctantly took Shen Yin’s hand and gave her a few more instructions before angrily pointing at Lian Jing, who was standing by at the door.
“What are you standing there for? Hurry up and see Little Yin off.”
Lian Jing hurriedly nodded in agreement. Grandpa had just met Shen Yin. But for some reason, his status in Grandpa’s heart seemed to have plummeted?
At the entrance of the hospital, Lian Jing waved away the troublesome chauffeur and personally drove Shen Yin home.
When they were waiting at a red light, he turned to look at Shen Yin meaningfully and said without rhyme or reason, “I guess we’ve met the parents.”
“?” Shen Yin turned her head away from him. “You’re thinking too much. Grandpa said he treats me like his own granddaughter, so you and I can’t have an incestuous relationship.”
“A granddaughter-in-law is also a granddaughter.” Unconcerned, Lian Jing pressed his foot on the accelerator. His fingers repeatedly fiddled with the steering wheel. “Do you hate me?”
This question made Shen Yin choke.
Did she hate him?
Apart from being domineering when they first met, this person had always been very gentlemanly.
“No, but I don’t like you either,” she replied coolly.
“As long as you don’t hate me.” Lian Jing deliberated before continuing. “So did you like the boy that you were with tonight?”
Shen Yin was speechless. “He’s a child.”
Lian Jing was obviously in a good mood. “After Grandpa is discharged from the hospital, he wants to hold a family banquet to celebrate. I’ll pick you up then.”
“Why should I go to your family banquet?”
“Remember, you’re Grandpa’s granddaughter.” Lian Jing deliberately emphasized the last words. Shen Yin could not find a reason to refuse.
Lian Jing turned the steering wheel with one hand and turned his head to look at her. “Don’t worry, I’ll let you know in advance. If you’re not working, come and have dinner with us.”
“Okay.” Shen Yin nodded, her cheeks red. She did not say anything else.
The car drove slowly to the unit. Shen Yin could not wait to open the door. She felt as if she might ignite if she stayed in the same space as Lian Jing any longer.
“Hey.” Lian Jing suddenly stopped her and grabbed her arm. His dark eyes glowed in the night. “Thank you for coming to see Grandpa. Good night.”
