There was a slight buzz on Shen Yi’s earpiece that hadn’t been working since they were held captive by Feng Zexian. He wasn’t sure what time it was already, but he estimated that it had been two hours since the old man showed himself to him and Li Yuren.

If Lu Xinyi was killed, Feng Zexian wouldn’t waste his time and would tell this to them at once. However, given the time that already passed, the events outside must be far from Feng Zexian plans.

‘Xinxin… be safe.’ Shen Yi prayed in his heart. If there’s a chance that he could escape, he’d kill Feng Zexian at once.

The buzz brought him back to his sense as he frowned. This shouldn’t be working, not unless Qiao He—who was waiting outside—had managed to establish the connection back.

“Yi, are you there? Please talk to me…”

Unexpectedly, it was his wife’s voice that Shen Yi heard from the device. His eyes widened; his back stiffened as he realized that she had somehow found a way to survive from Feng Zexian’s attack.

“Xinxin, I’m here. Are you alright?” he said lowly, hoping that whoever was guarding outside wouldn’t hear his voice.

“We’re fine, but I’m disappointed with you. Why did you go there without telling me again?” Shen Yi could already imagine her pouting face from the other end of the line.

“I’m sorry. I’ll not do it again, but are you sure you’re okay?” He responded. Shen Yi knew he would never be able to forgive himself if something bad happened to her.

“Yeah, wait for the rescue, okay? Long Feng has infiltrated the building and was now following General Li’s direction,” she told him, “Let’s get this done so we can go home, okay?”

Shen Yi hummed. She sounded nervous and depressed at the same time. How stupid he was for stepping on a trap orchestrated by this old fox.

An hour later, both Shen Yi and Li Yuren heard footsteps outside the door then a commotion. Long Feng stepped inside the dark room in a hurry and released his commander before helping Shen Yi.

“What’s the situation outside?” Li Yuren asked him as he took the spare gun Long Feng had given him. His hair was now longer than usual framed the side of his face, giving him a more intimidating look. Brushing his hair aside, he led the way out and wasn’t surprised to see dead bodies scattered in the hallway.

“Who did this?” he asked. Surely, it wasn’t Long Feng’s doing. The bloody mess on the floor wasn’t something his subordinate was capable of.

“Shen Yi’s rescue,” Long Feng replied to him.

At some point, between walking through the blood-soaked, body-riddled pathway to the elevator, they found the Bloody wolves standing next to it waiting for them.

“We’re here as per Miss Xinxin’s orders,” Fu Shuren told them.

Before anyone could question them further, the power suddenly cut off.

“They cut off the power lines. We don’t have a choice but to use the stairs.” His brother informed them. ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ

Shen Yi was abnormally silent and grumpy as he followed Li Yuren’s lead downstairs. Everyone felt it. One moment the atmosphere was heavy, and now, it changed to something frightening. They could all sense the hatred in the air.

Someone was about to die. That’s for sure.

Shen Yi almost lost his wife again because of his carelessness. He didn’t want to die here or allow Feng Zexian to harm his family anymore.

‘I cannot allow him to have that satisfaction to get revenge and win,’ he told himself.

As soon as they stepped at the upper floor, four men appeared and lunged at them. Fu Shuren easily disarmed the first man and beat the crap out of him before turning his attention back at his companions.

Lu Xinyi rarely gave them an order, but today, she utilized their skills twice. They once again experienced that adrenaline rush they could only experience on their dangerous missions. The bloodbath—the excitement that they hadn’t felt for years was starting to unleash throughout their bodies.

Their mistress laid her trust in them that they’d be able to rescue her husband this time, and none of them had plans to fail.

Just like the wolves in the wild, the four moved in a pack. Fu Shuren led the way while his younger brother stayed behind to protect the two women on their team. Jiao Jiao made swift kills along the way while Zhang Qing utilized her long-range expertise to kill men even before they spotted them.

Shen Yi and Li Yuren were working as a team as they eliminated those who obstructed their path and continued their way upstairs. They were both eager to finish this for once and for all.

They let the Bloody Wolves and Long Feng’s team deal with Feng Zexian’s people.

When they stumbled from the stair and reached the top floor, they took a good look around them. All the walls except for one were made out of glass. It seemed like it was an office with a board room next to it and a casual sitting area for the guests.

Shen Yi could vaguely remember being here a few years ago. He scoffed as he thought how dumb Feng Zexian was to have a place with so much sitting area. What was he trying to do? Host a party or seminar? No wonder all of his business failed one at a time back then.

“Heh, a vermin like you still think highly of yourself?” He spat out as he glared at the figure sitting across them.

“I don’t recall asking for your opinion, Shen Yi,” Feng Zexian’s deep voice answered him, “Being saved by a woman? Oh, how the mighty demon king has fallen so badly that he needs his wife’s assistance to reach me.”

He taunted and turned in his chair to face the two of them. Frankly, this was out of his plan, and he hadn’t planned things to go this way. Who would have thought that the legendary ‘Bloody Wolves’ that disappeared from the mercenary world had been living beside Lu Xinyi all these years?

No wonder every time he sent men to kill her, the corpse of his men ended up on his doorstep. He originally thought that it was a warning from Shen Yi not to mess up with his wife, but it was the Bloody Wolves’ way to discard the dead bodies away from their mistress and Young Miss Qing.

“This is the end for you, Feng Zexian,” Li Yuren said simply.

At his remark, the old man laughed out loud. The nasty scars on his face could be seen as the sunset rays hit him. Shen Yi wondered how did this old man survive the torture he unleashed upon him several years ago for abducting Shen Xue.

This man surely didn’t know when to stop and when to give up. Hadn’t he learn anything from his failures before?

“Li Yuren, are you forgetting where you are? Do you think a person like you can kill me when the demon king standing next to you wasn’t able to do it?” Feng Zexian chuckled.

“How about we stop talking and finally put an end to this?” Shen Yi said with boredom. He grew tired of this already. “I’d like to go home with my wife.”

“Yes, I’m beginning to miss my bed that I haven’t seen for days because of him.” Li Yuren agreed easily to Shen Yi.
