486 Strange if You Knew

Jiang Yue and Xue Yan knew he was awake the moment he started to cough. They put down their work and went in to have a look.

“It’s you again.” Shao Shuting recognized Jiang Yue and smiled. Immediately after, he put up a face of resistance. “What exactly is this smell?”

Jiang Yue was expressionless. “The doctor said that you have to drink the brewed medicine three times a day.”

“I don’t want to.” Shao Shuting resisted even more. He even tilted his head and buried his face in the pillow like a child.

Jiang Yue and Xue Yan were speechless.

They seemed to understand why a general could have such a terrible wound. It turned out that he was afraid of drinking medicine and was unwilling to drink it.

A general that was afraid of drinking medicine…

“Well.” Xue Yan coughed dryly. “You need to start taking care of it. The doctor said that if it gets worse, not even the gods of the great all-embracing heaven can save you.”

Shao Shuting revealed an eye from the pillow. “And who are you?”

“I’m Xue Yan.”

“Have you ever studied?” Shao Shuting immediately raised his eyebrows.

“Yes,” Xue Yan said. “But not anymore.”

“Why did you stop?” Shao Shuting asked.

Xue Yan didn’t say anything.

Shao Shuting buried his exposed eye back into the pillow. “Boring.” After a short pause, he continued, “Baby girl, what’s your relationship with this boy? Both of you don’t even have the same surname.”

“I’m being raised in his house,” Jiang Yue replied.

“Oh, so you’re an orphan.” Shao Shuting nodded in his pillow.

Jiang Yue neither admitted nor denied it. She took out the tiger tally and said, “I’m returning it to you. It fell from your body.”

“What… F*ck!” Shao Shuting subconsciously peeked out again. When he saw the thing in Jiang Yue’s hand, he almost sat up in shock. However, the injury on his waist was too painful, so he obediently lay back down. However, he still took the tiger tally at the first moment and put it into his arms. As he put it away, he said, “It’s a good thing you’re still young and don’t know what this is.”

Jiang Yue and Xue Yan were expressionless.

Shao Shuting looked at the two children and felt that their reactions were interesting. He raised his eyebrows. “What, do you know what this is?”

“I don’t know,” Xue Yan and Jiang Yue lied without changing their expressions.

“It’ll be strange if you really know,” Shao Shuting said with a smile. “But you’re a lot more mature than kids your age. By the way, thank you for saving me and returning my things to me. My injuries won’t heal in a short time, so I’ll have to trouble you for a few days.”

If it wasn’t for the pain in his wound, he would have already left.

He still had things to do.

His nephew, the missing Crown Prince Shu Xuanyuan, showed traces that suggested the secret guards might have carried him to this county. However, his men had secretly inquired around the county and did not find any traces of his nephew or that secret guard. Therefore, he ordered his men to spread out and look around the surrounding towns.

It just so happened that he was also injured. He was afraid that his father would force him to take medicine if he went to the military camps, so he also came to one of the towns to rest.

However, not long after he arrived in town, he realized that someone was following him. He then turned into an alley and took care of the two people who were following him.

Then, he met Jiang Yue, a cute little baby girl.

To acknowledge Shao Shuting’s thanks, Xue Yan replied with a you’re welcome.

Jiang Yue glanced outside and said, “The medicine is ready.”
