Chapter 1262: The Pain of Loss
Lu Yeming stood up and got ready to leave.
Jun Xiqing knew that he was going to look for Elder Sis Mo’er. She quickly ran up and caught his sleeve, saying in a low voice, “West Duke, that’s enough. Elder Sister Mo’er wouldn’t want to see you like this.”
Piercing eyes slammed into her, then lowered to look at her small hands. “Let go of me.”
His low voice was hoarse, but his words were forceful.
Still, Jun Xiqing refused to let go.
Lu Yeming swung her hand away violently. He had used quite a bit of force and Jun Xiqing stumbled backward, falling onto the carpeted floor.
With a huge thud, her head hit against the bed frame.
Hiss.
She hissed in pain.
Lu Yeming froze for two seconds before walking back to her. He knelt down and wrapped his hands around her face.
There was a huge lump forming on her forehead.
“Does it hurt?” His gaze landed on her and he asked hoarsely.
Jun Xiqing nodded. “Are you kidding me? Do you want to try it for yourself?”
Eyebrows furrowed, Lu Yeming only said, “I’ll get someone to put some medication on.”
Then he stood up and prepared to leave again.
“West Duke.” Jun Xiqing grabbed his sleeve again.
Lu Yeming stopped. Still in a half-crouched position, his expression darkened as his thin lips pressed into a tight pale line. He looked upset, and his patience with her was running out.
As Jun Xiqing looked up at him with clear bright eyes, she said softly, “Elder Sister Mo’er received a call yesterday telling her of your identity.”
It was then that Lu Yeming’s red eyes finally stirred. So… Mo’er knew.
“That’s right, Elder Sister Mo’er already knew that you weren’t her biological brother. But look, she never abandoned you. She didn’t leave. She even pushed you away from the danger you were in. That’s how much she loved you.”
The metallic taste welled up behind Lu Yeming’s throat again. Blood started trickling from the corner of his mouth.
At this moment, a small hand reached out and pressed against his heart, and Lu Yeming raised his eyes to look at her.
Jun Xiqing’s beautiful face was glowing warmly in the yellow light. Her eyes were gentle when she told him, “Elder Sister Mo’er handed you over to me yesterday night. She told me to be by your side and not to leave you alone. If I do this, will you stop hurting? Will you stop vomiting blood?”
Lu Yeming’s eyes only turned redder, until they were completely bloodshot. He could feel his eyes fill with tears again.
Lowering her long lashes, Jun Xiqing continued, “Elder Sister Mo’er was extremely intelligent and knew that there was something wrong with the call, so she tasked me with checking it out. I tried to trace it, but I’m sorry, the person seems to have vanished. I couldn’t find anything at all.
“But I think that the lack of an answer is the best answer to this mystery. To be able to use Elder Sister Mo’er to mess with your emotions, and to send someone to knock you down then vanish without a trace, this person has to be someone with extremely great power and status. If I had to venture a guess, I would say it’s probably someone from the Palace.
“So,” Jun Xiqing said as she lifted her hands to gently wipe the blood away from the corners of his mouth. The blood continued flowing. “President Gu was right. In everything she did, Elder Sister Mo’er was supporting you towards your road to being Emperor.
“Elder Sister Mo’er said last night that she hoped you would take up the Murong name and conquer the world. I agree as well. Your battle is not here but in the Palace…. So, West Duke, you cannot collapse. You still have a lot of unfinished business.”
While her words seemed to reverberate into his ears, Lu Yeming balled his hands into fists, a vein jumping on his forehead. His long lashes slowly lowered as he allowed two tears to roll down his face.
The pain in his heart was ripping him apart.
As his heart throbbed, the blood from his mouth stained his black shirt.
Today was the day he had lost his greatest love.
Just like that, she had slipped through his fingers. The warmth he had tried so hard to catch had finally faded into the darkness into nothingness.
He would be alone from now on.
To live his life slowly, painfully.
Looking at his anguished expression, Jun Xiqing raised her hands to hug his head, gently folding him into her embrace. “If you miss Elder Sister Mo’er, don’t hold it in. Let it out. Cry to your heart’s content.”
Even as she said this, Jun Xiqing’s eyes watered as tears fell down her cheeks. She could no longer hold the sadness in. She missed Elder Sister Mo’er too… so much…
And Lu Yeming let her hold him. The two of them stayed still for a long period of time, their shadows stretching together against the carpeted floor…
…
In the middle of the night.
Gu Mohan walked up to the ocean. It was in the thick of winter, but he was only in a thin black shirt that flapped uselessly in the stark wind.
As he looked at the ocean which had been swallowed up by darkness, the waves washed towards him. Cold water soaked his shoes and the ends of his trousers, but he felt nothing.
Yan Dong, who was standing behind him, was more than a little worried. “President, the night is cold. We should head back.”
But Gu Mohan’s handsome face remained expressionless and he only replied softly, “I forgot my phone in the car. Can you get it for me?”
Seeing the President so calm, Yan Dong hesitated for a moment before saying, “Alright, I’ll get it.”
Yan Dong turned and walked back to the car.
Yan Dong had left.
Gu Mohan walked slowly towards the ocean. The cold water quickly soaked through his trousers, his waist, and slowly moved upwards…
He couldn’t feel anything at all. He just wanted to know, what kind of water had taken his wife away from him?
He walked in slowly until the cold waters were at his chest. As his head still floated above the waters, he slowly let himself sink…
Yan Dong grabbed the President’s phone and ran back. But he suddenly froze. Where was the President?
Where did the President go?
The waves crashed against the shore, bringing with it a certain bleakness and a hunger to swallow someone whole.
Oh lord. Yan Dong’s hands and legs were freezing and his blood seemed to run cold. It suddenly struck him that the President had sent him away on purpose.
“President!
“President!”
Yan Dong shouted loudly. But his voice was swallowed up by the wind.
“President!”
Yan Dong was trembling. He had a sinking feeling in his heart as he took his phone out shakily and prepared to dial a number.
At this moment, a giant wave crashed towards him, bringing with it a human body.
Yan Dong looked down and exclaimed, “President!”
Gu Mohan had returned.
He lay on the shore, thoroughly soaked to the bone. The giant wave receded from his body and he opened his eyes to look at the starry night sky.
He had felt it.
The ocean was warm.
When he was sinking, he felt as though warm arms were embracing him, pushing him gently towards the shore.
