Chapter 624 - The Consequences of Evil

At the borders of Yundian Province where rosy clouds covered the sky. Towards the southwest would be the border of Myanmar.

In the dense forest, a figure swiftly flashed past, exhausted from the constant running. There’s a mountain rat up ahead and a dagger flashed, stabbing the mountain rat to the ground. As the figure descended, the mountain rat was swiftly skinned before blood was being gulped down in mouthfuls. That figure wore a sinister expression like a vampire.

However, that figure did not stop for long and continued her escape forth.

Her charming face was replaced with ferocity, panic, and anxiety. Ever since Medusa was released in Nanyue Province, she had continuously been under pursuit. As an assassin, it’s an irony for her to be chased like a dog.

There were a total of five people chasing after her. She’s naturally confident in dealing with them one-to-one, but their movements were extremely peculiar. She couldn’t guard against them, and most importantly, they had powerful adaptability and willpower. In the forest, they could find food and water sources easier than her.

When she tried to retaliate several times, the other party was more cautious than she had imagined. Not only did she fail to injure them, but she was covered in injuries.

Medusa instantly knew that if she continued to tangle with them, she would die from exhaustion. Hence, she changed her plan and constantly moved towards the border. As long as she could escape from the border, she wouldn’t be far from the safe house of her organisation. With that, she would be able to contact her organisation and be safe from the pursuit.

She crawled out from a mountain of corpses, so she wasn’t afraid of death. However, it was undeniable that she cherished her life.

After running half a kilometer forth, the energy that she replenished from the mountain rat was exhausted. Looking at the darkening sky, Medusa started to search for a place to rest. She was familiar with her pursuers’ style, and they generally wouldn’t attack her at night. After all, there were more uncertainties at night, and they’re people with discipline and organisational structure.

Medusa’s eyes fell on a massive tree, where she swiftly climbed up and found a spacious tree branch. After breaking several of the surrounding branches, she made a resting place.

The reason why she made the tree her resting place was mainly to prevent herself from being attacked by wild animals at night.

But just when she made a nest, her eyelids suddenly started to twitch and she immediately lowered her head. An arrow flew over her head with her heart turning cold. She knew that she had been discovered.

The arrow was made in the forest with the tip shaved and poison added on it. If that arrow hit her, she would instantly be rendered helpless.

Although her current state was exceptionally terrible from the exhaustion, she brought out all her potential.

Her current state was extremely terrible. She was exhausted, but she could still bring out her innate potential at this moment. In just a few breath’s time, she relied on her lightweight to travel from one branch to another. She had used this technique a few times in the past to escape. Although the five people pursuing her were stronger than her in physique, they lost out in agility.

As a gentle breeze blew on her back, Medusa did not turn around as a poison arrow flew over. The other party was smart. They weren’t proficient in climbing trees, so they made use of the materials in the forest to make bows and arrows, giving them a range capability to stop her from escaping.

Her enemies weren’t good with bows, but her current physique was in a terrible state. She first felt intense pain from her thigh before a numbing sensation spread out. Losing her center of gravity, she fell from the tree. Despite the grass and tree branches being used as cover, she could feel that her legs were broken.

Ten-odd breaths later, a Thailand man walked over and said with a weird accent, “I’m a disciple of Su Tao!”

When he finished, he took out a rope made of vines and wrapped it around Medusa’s neck. Medusa tried to pull on the rope with her hands, but she couldn’t exert any strength. A few minutes later, Medusa’s eyes were wide open and she stopped breathing.

Removing the rope, Bassoon briefly conversed with his four companions before they started a repentance ceremony to confess their sins and seek forgiveness.

Five minutes later, Bassoon and his four companions left. After spending a few days, they’ve finally gotten rid of this cold-blooded assassin for Su Tao.

The formerly mighty assassin, Medusa, died in a place where no one would find her. Just like that, her corpse was lying in the middle of the forest, shrouded in an azure sky.

Shortly after, the wild animals in the forest caught onto the scent of blood. A few wolves came over and took a sniff before they started tearing the corpse apart with their sharp fangs…

In a luxurious villa district located on the outskirts of Qiongjin City. The district here was decorated with trees for shade, neat paths, and an artificial lake. Every single villa had a different style, but all of them were placed around the artificial lake in a picturesque scene.

There weren’t many people living here since most of the residents here were successful people who owned multiple properties. They would only come here to relax; thus, the security guards weren’t well-aware of the owners here, they could only recognise the car plate license.

A black Mercedes-Benz slowly drove in after security checks and stopped outside a villa. Alarmed by the sudden arrival, barking rang out from the courtyard. An old man normally lived here to look after the house, and when he confirmed the visitor, he immediately hollered at the dog. Opening the door, he wore a smile on his face as he looked at Li Yede. “Sorry about the dog.”

Nodding his head, Li Yede frowned. “Uncle, I will be staying here for a period of time.”

“Then, I’ll immediately get someone to tidy up.” The old man smiled.

This old man was the cousin of his father, and also the butler of this villa. The salary of this old man was as high as an executive in a foreign enterprise; thus, living a good life.

After the old man settled Li Yede, he immediately called out to the few servants to prepare dinner for Li Yede. He might be in his seventies, but he’s in good health. Normally, he’s the owner of this villa, and the servants were mainly to attend him.

Half an hour later, dishes were laid out on the dining table. While Li Yede was filled with thoughts, he sighed and shook his head. “So much food?”

“You’re rarely here, so I naturally have to get them to prepare more food!” The old man explained.

Nodding his head, Li Yede briefly hesitated. But in the end, he did not get his uncle to eat together with him. The taste of the food was great, and it’s comparable to 5-starred hotels. Pouring himself a cup of Five Grain Liquor, he started eating alone. At this moment, he had to calm down. The Love Representative Charity Funds and a few other charity foundations were being investigated. He might not have participated in the operation, but he had a close relationship with Shao Jing. Large sums of money would pass through those few charity foundations to clean up the money for him to avoid tax.

Putting it in a nutshell, the Love Representative Charity Funds, and a few other charity foundations were channels for him to avoid tax, and this was also the reason why he placed so much effort in this matter.

Shao Jing had been arrested, and he knew that the young master wouldn’t have a tight lip. Hence, he’s living on the edge at this moment. He had no idea when someone would come knocking on his door and take him away for investigation.

At the same time, he didn’t dare to escape. All of this took place in an instant, and if he ran overseas, wouldn’t that be the same as confessing?

This was also the reason why he came to this villa, to which he only visited once or twice a year. He hoped to hide till the matter dies down and avoid this tribulation.

As he ate a fish, his eyelids started to violently twitch. He had a foreboding feeling when his phone rang out. It was a call from his trusted aide. “Boss, a group of people came in uniform earlier, asking you for an investigation.”

Letting out a sigh, Li Yede replied, “I got it.”

“Boss… why don’t you make a run?” His trusted aide suggested and continued, “Judging from their attitude, I don’t think that it will be favorable for you.”

“Run? Where can I run? Can I run for my entire life?” Li Yede showed a mocking smile.

His trusted aide was speechless and inwardly sighed. If his boss didn’t run for it, wouldn’t that mean that a whole bunch of people would go down with him?

Li Yede naturally didn’t understand his trusted aide’s thoughts. After hanging up the call, he continued to eat. All of a sudden, he reminisced how Qin Meimei helped him when he started his business. Back then, Qin Meimei told him to avoid doing anything illegal in business.

The few years when they drifted apart, he avoided Qin Meimei to establish the Love Representative Charity Funds with Shao Jun and a few other charity foundations while feeling an indescribable excitement from the process of avoiding tax.

When Qin Meimei came to know about it, she started a huge fight with him. This was also the cause that made Li Yede make up his mind about abandoning Qin Meimei.

With half the bottle going into his stomach, the doorbell rang out. When his uncle went to open the door, ten-odd people appeared, ferociously staring at him.

“May I ask if Li Yede is here?” The leader of the group took out an arrest order and continued, “We suspect that he’s avoiding tax, and at the same time, we’re suspecting that he’s involved in illegal business operations, underground transactions, leaking insider information, and briberies. Right now, we need him to come with us for an investigation.”

As the old man widened his mouth in shock, he asked, “Did you guys make a mistake?”

He failed to respond in time as the group walked past him and entered. The dog barked twice before it sat in the corner after seeing so many people and lowered its head.

Li Yede, who was eating, looked at them and smiled. “You guys are finally here!”

After that, he wiped his mouth with a napkin and smiled. “I’ll go with you guys!”

All of a sudden, a person charged out of the group and slapped him before they pinned him on the table and cuffed his hands.
