Chapter 777 - Fox Falling into the Trap

Seeing Caru lowering his head, Jackson suddenly stood up and smiled. “Since this matter has already been resolved, then I will be taking my leave. Rest well, Commander Caru. You don’t have to worry about Italy’s government anymore, you guys are now safe.”

“This is a piece of good news.” Caru smiled as his expression loosened up.

When Jackson took his leave, he adjusted his collar before sitting in an ordinary vehicle before giving a call to Lin Yifu, “Mr. Lin, I did not fail your hopes and I have successfully convinced Caru.”

“Thank you. Furthermore, we still have to enhance our security on Vera and Su Tao. I don’t hope for the same incident to take place a second time.” Lin Yifu acknowledged.

“Roger!” Jackson smiled.

Jackson had already instructed Phillip about it, and he believed that no one in Italy would target Su Tao again.

Returning to Rome with a heavy heart, Joanna furiously asked the butler upon getting out of the vehicle, “Where’s my mother?”

The butler has never seen Joanna so furious. He pointed at the ceiling. “She should be in the gym upstairs!”

Letting out a cold snort, Joanna stomped her way to the second floor and pushed the door open. Monica was currently on a Yoga Ball stretching her body, and looking at her perfect figure, no one would believe that she’s a middle-aged woman.

“Joanna? What’s the matter?” Monica was startled by Joanna’s sudden entry. She sat upright and looked at her daughter with perplexion.

In her impression, she had never seen Joanna behaving so rudely before.

“I nearly died!” Joanna furiously said before she continued, “And the culprit is my mother, how laughable is that?”

“Calm down. What do you mean by ‘I’m the culprit’?” Monica might be having the silent treatment with Joanna, but that’s only because they had a difference in opinion on their methods to save Tony. Hence, she’s still very concerned about Joanna.

“I participated in a fashion show in Milan, and when it came to an end, I was involved in a case of homicide. The murderer was hired, and it was fortunate that they ultimately failed. Otherwise, you would be seeing my corpse right now.” Joanna swiftly said.

It took some time for Monica to react from that before she looked at her daughter in astonishment. “You participated in Su Tao’s fashion show earlier?”

“That’s right!” Joanna replied as she continued, “You must be feeling regretful right now that you failed to kill me and Su Tao!”

Feeling conflicted in her heart, Monica replied, “I’m sorry, my darling. I wasn’t trying to harm you, it’s all a misunderstanding.”

“Misunderstanding?” Joanna’s tone became cold as she questioned, “Tosca Pharmaceutical Conglomerate is a clean enterprise. Do you know what consequences it might cause if your actions were found out?”

Monica was frozen upon hearing that. She knew that her daughter’s words were right. Hence, she started to feel regretful of her impulsiveness.

Most importantly, she realised that Mike cannot be trusted. Not only did he fail, but he even nearly put her daughter in danger.

Looking at the wound on Joanna’s neck, Monica sobbed, “That wound was caused earlier?”

“Yeah!” Joanna solemnly replied before she continued, “The female assassin had a blade to my neck and cut my skin. Furthermore, the blade was laced with poison, and if it wasn’t for Su Tao, I would be dead by now.”

As tears rolled down Monica’s eyes, her voice became hoarse, “Thank goodness that you’re fine!”

Her son was currently imprisoned, and if something happened to her daughter, Monica couldn’t imagine what would be of her.

After Joanna vented all of her emotions, she suddenly stretched her hand out and grabbed Monica’s hands. “Mom, please believe in me. I will definitely do my best to get Tony out. I was unhappy with Tony because he needed to suffer some setback in order to grow, but deep in my heart, I will never give up on him.”

“It’s all my fault. I was too impulsive and did something so extreme. Please, forgive me.” Monica replied after a brief stun.

With a smile rising on her lips, Joanna held onto Monica’s hands and replied, “I have already communicated with the Chinese government, and we will compensate their losses through compensation and investment, showing our sincerity. Furthermore, they have also promised that Tony will be released the moment the cooperation has been finalised.”

Monica had been giving Joanna the silent treatment, but she also understood her daughter well. Although occasionally, her daughter’s words might sound harsh, she’s not the kind of person who boasts.

“Really?” Monica became emotional upon hearing that.

Nodding her head, Joanna’s tone became soft, “Don’t worry about it. Tony wasn’t the mastermind, it’s all because of Ying Xiong and George. I have already conducted my investigation, and I found out that the two of them have known each other since a long time ago. They were pawns nurtured by some hidden powers, and Tosca Pharmaceutical Conglomerate suffered the biggest loss in this matter from this incident.”

Hearing her explanation, Monica finally figured out what was going on and bitterly smiled. “What a despicable fellow, George has been taking so much money from Tosca Pharmaceutical Conglomerate every year.”

“We can only say that someone has offered him more benefits.” Joanna bitterly smiled.

“Although I don’t have any substantial evidence right now, I know that the other party has a clear objective. Firstly, they’re trying to create chaos in China through the epidemic to affect the country’s operation. Secondly, they’re planning to ruin Tosca Pharmaceutical Conglomerate’s opportunity to enter China’s market.” Joanna’s tone became grave before she continued, “According to my knowledge, this matter might be related to Neuer Pharmaceutical Conglomerate. The Neuer Pharmaceutical Conglomerate made use of Cambell Pharmaceutical Company to enter China’s market, and at the same time, they also possess the best researchers in the world.”

“You’re saying that the virus might’ve been developed by Neuer Pharmaceutical Conglomerate before it was given to George?” Monica said as she slowly sorted through the logic.

Nodding her head, Joanna replied, “That’s a possibility! After all, Neuer Pharmaceutical Conglomerate is rumoured to be backed by Germany’s special division.”

“What can they benefit from by causing chaos in China?” Monica curiously asked.

“China has been progressing with their Belt and Road Initiative, trying to link up with Europe. Just recently, a multinational conference was held and no one wanted the current balance to fall apart. Not only is Germany unwilling, the UK, Russia, Italy, and America were also unwilling to see that happen. Hence, they naturally hope that China can be thrown into chaos to keep them busy.”

“I never expected that this incident would have so many secrets behind it. Tony is really too foolish to become someone's gun.” Through Joanna’s explanation, Monica was ultimately disappointed in Tony.

Compared to Tony, Joanna was so much more outstanding.

“I hope that you can break your contact with Mike! This will be more helpful in getting Tony out.” Joanna patiently made her request.

“Don’t worry about it. I will never have any connection with that foolish and greedy fellow ever again!” Monica solemnly replied.

Sitting in the business suite of a hotel in China, Mike tightly locked his brows together. He just checked his back account and the 3,000,000 EUROs that was promised by Monica wasn’t in.

Just ten minutes ago, he tried making an international call to Caru, but he couldn’t get through. All the signs have shown that Caru’s plan has failed.

As a cunning fox, Mike instantly caught onto the scent of danger. Hence, he immediately started packing his luggage before rushing off to check out his room.

While he was anxiously waiting for the checking out process, four to five police officers walked in from the entrance. Seeing those officers, his face instantly changed and he grabbed his luggage, trying to make a run for it.

When the police officers noticed Mike’s unusual behaviour, they subconsciously chased after him.

Due to the lack of training, Mike felt that his legs were getting heavier after running for ten-odd meters. The officer who ran at the front pounced at him, pinning him down before cuffing him.

“What are you guys doing? Why am I being arrested?” Mike was furious as he expressed his protest in influent Mandarin.

Actually, the officers did not recognise Mike, who had a disguise on. If it wasn’t for Mike’s guilty conscience that caused him to make a run for it, he wouldn’t have been arrested so quickly.

After removing Mike’s sunglasses and his fake mustache, the officer smiled and turned to his colleagues. “It really is this fellow!”

His colleague took out a picture from his pocket and compared it with Mike before nodding his head. “Yeah, that’s him alright!”

Shortly after, the officer said in a solemn tone, “Mike, we’re INTERPOL, and you’re now arrested for suspecting to be involved in a transnational assassination attempt.”

“You guys are accusing me!” Mike still tried to struggle.

“You jolly know it well if I’m accusing you!” The officer who was pinning Mike down was experienced with violent arrests. When he saw that Mike wasn’t behaving well, he gave a jab at Mike’s abdomen, causing the latter to start coughing.

“You guys are actually using violence against me? I’m a lawyer, and I can sue you guys!” It took a long time for Mike to recover from the pain as he warned.

“Take him away!” Another officer bitterly smiled before coming out to escort Mike to the police vehicle.

After he was brought into the vehicle, Mike slowly calmed down. He never imagined that the day would come when he would transit from being a lawyer to a convict.

Furthermore, he was well-aware that convicts like him would definitely be given the ‘special’ treatment in China’s prisons.

At this moment, he was filled with regret for coming up with such a terrible idea for Monica. Not only had he harmed others, but he also harmed himself.
