Chapter 109: The Black White School

After saying their farewells to Chu Luo, Jiang Chen and his two companions left the Vermillion Bird City to look for the airship that they’d hidden.

On their way, Meng Hao and Wen Xin were discussing whether Chu Luo and her three apprentice sisters’ reluctance to part with Jiang Chen was genuine or not.

“I mean, the spell changed how they felt about Jiang Chen, so their sadness at his departure must’ve been real,” Meng Hao explained what he thought.

“There are no rivers without sources in this world, nor are there trees without roots. How could you say it was real?” Wen Xin didn’t agree with Meng Hao. She was still in a state of shock after seeing the spell.

“But the spell is the source of their emotions. Jiang Chen, what will happen to them if the spell is removed?” Meng Hao said.

Jiang Chen frowned upon hearing their conversation and said, “Please stop talking about the spell.”

The Soul Eating Spell was one of the three forbidden spells in the Sacred Zone. Although many people used them secretly, Jiang Chen didn’t want to talk about it in public.

Wen Xin and Meng Hao exchanged a look. They realized that however curious they were, they shouldn’t talk about it anymore.

The three of them found the airship on the other side of the mountain.

When Wen Xin climbed on board, she found Jiang Chen frowning.

Wen Xin jumped over to him and put her hand on his shoulder. “What’s up? Did we bother you by discussing the spell? We won’t—”

“Go!” Jiang Chen shouted and pushed Wen Xin onto the ground. He took out the Redcloud Sword, turned around, and struck.

Clang!

The sound of metal hitting produced a crisp sound. Beneath flying sparks, a flying sword that had been cut into two fell onto the ground.

Whoosh!

Not until then did they hear the sword flying across the sky. This meant it had been flying faster than the speed of sound.

Wen Xin and Meng Hao were given a good scare. They hurried to take out their spiritual weapons and look in the direction the flying sword had come from.

“Not bad. Your holy awareness and Gathering Yuan State could detect my flying sword. Looks I should have charged more for you.”

A person of average height in black walked over to them. Judging from the shape of the figure, it was a man. He was wearing a special mask, the left half black and the right half white.

“Black White School!” Wen Xin shouted in surprise when she saw the black and white mask. She paled immediately.

“It’s the most famous organization of assassins in the Fire Field, with a history spanning hundreds of years,” she told Meng Hao and Jiang Chen.

Being an assassin was a detestable and intimidating existence. A group of assassins could attract more hatred than any other group, so assassins were normally mysterious and kept a low profile. As long as people didn’t know their true identities, they were safe.

But this Black White School had such fame that it was no different than any of the top ten sects and schools, and it had been there for hundreds of years. It had a powerful reputation.

Over the years, many excellent disciples coming from all different divisions were assassinated by the Black White School. Some of the more powerful forces had tried to collaborate and exterminate the Black White School, but their attempts had all ended tragically.

Up until then, the Black White School had gained a special status in the Fire Field. People would rather forget the organization altogether and at the same time, hope they wouldn’t be targeted by its killers.

At this moment, an assassin from this organization was standing before Wen Xin. Of course she was afraid.

She saw there was a blood-red tear stemming from the corner of the eye on the white part of the mask.

“Blood tears represents the level of the Black White School’s assassins—Sky, Kill, Earth and Extinction. One blood tear means he’s a level-four killer, the Extinction level.”

“Fortunately, that’s the lowest level,” Meng Hao said.

Wen Xin glanced at him and said, “Even their lowest-level killers are in the Mental Wander State.”

Meng Hao almost cursed. He said in surprise, “Why would a Mental Wander State want to be a killer? Anything else would be better than that.”

“One’s character won’t be changed by his state. As long as it’s profitable, those in the Mental Wander State can be bandits, too,” Wen Xin said.

“He came here for me. You two take the airship and leave.”

Jiang Chen handed Wen Xin the controlling flag. At the same time, he kept his eyes on the assassin.

“Let’s go together! He won’t be able to catch up with you once we get onto the ship.”

“The airship isn’t able to defend us. It’ll be more dangerous when we’re up in the air. Don’t waste more time!”

Jiang Chen threw the controlling flag at them and ran into the forest.

The assassin wasn’t in a hurry at all. He glanced at Wen Xin and Meng Hao, with the flying sword whirling between his fingers, then he changed his mind. He gave up the idea of forcing Jiang Chen into submission by kidnapping his friends.

If he had to exert such effort just to deal with a Gathering Yuan State, he would bring shame on the Black White School.

He looked toward where Jiang Chen had fled and gave a cold grin.

He took a step forward and disappeared before Wen Xin and Meng Hao. They only felt a strong wind blowing in the direction Jiang Chen had fled.

“It’s all over.” Wen Xin felt helpless. Jiang Chen wasn’t from a powerful faction. No one was protecting him. There was no way he would survive after facing a killer in the Mental Wander State.

“Don’t worry about it. You should trust Jiang Chen. He killed a Mental Wander State once,” Meng Hao said.

Wen Xin gained some confidence from Meng Hao’s comfort. They got onto the airship and flew to where Jiang Chen had gone.

“Who would send a killer of the Black White School to deal with Jiang Chen? Could that be the Gaos’ revenge?”

“The Gaos’ wouldn’t have to take such great pains to kill Jiang Chen if they really wanted to take the revenge. They could send some powerful men directly from their family. Whoever it was sent a killer, which means they preferred to stay anonymous. It could be the Black Dragon City. Jiang Chen was chased by Ning Ping at the trial ground, so back then the Black Dragon City must have already had the intent to kill Jiang Chen, but Jiang Chen had been in the school for a long time, so they didn’t get the chance.”

“When he finally left the school, no one knew where he had gone, not until the news of the imperial mausoleum was spread. So the killer, who could have been waiting for a long time, finally came after him.”

Jiang Chen had the same thoughts as Wen Xin, but even if he knew this, his situation wouldn’t be any different.

He was running while under a dense attack of flying swords, but for the time, he was able to dodge all of them.

The flying swords that had missed their target hit the trees and penetrated them without any difficulty.

He could have caught up with me. Why does he insist on using flying swords? For the pleasure of the chase? That’s unprofessional.

Jiang Chen knew he wouldn’t be able to run away from the killer. He turned around and saw the assassin, standing stable on a branch.

He was playing with his flying swords. Despite the mask on his face, Jiang Chen could imagine his teasing expression.

“Your flying swords can’t kill me,” Jiang Chen said coldly.

“Did I say I wanted to kill you? If I catch you alive, I’ll be paid a hundred times more,” the killer said, relaxed.

“Catch me alive?” Jiang Chen didn’t understand this. Did the Black Dragon City plan to torture him to death?

Then suddenly, he recalled Chu Luo’s words and tumbled to the realization.

Ning Haotian’s holy pulse is disappearing little by little. He must have noticed it. And at the same time, mine is rising rapidly. Naturally he could guess what had happened.

Jiang Chen sneered after he realized this. He thought to himself, “Black Dragon City, do you want to deprive me of my holy pulse for a second time? No, I won’t allow it.”

Then he looked up and pretended to be frightened. He gnashed his teeth and said, “Couldn’t you let me go? You should have heard how excellent I was in the imperial mausoleum. I have some treasure from there. I can give it to you.”

“Yeah?”

The killer jumped off the branch and walked towards him.
