The Regent’s Little Emperor (27)

Xie Yunting’s wounds were not light. When he developed a high fever, he only felt a pair of delicate and small hands wipe his body.

His wound was also carefully bandaged.

He struggled several times to wake up. When he vaguely saw the little emperor’s shadowy figure swaying next to him, he would shut his eyes again.

Because of his high fever, his dreams were a chaotic mess.

In his dream, his tiny body was kneeling at the ancestral hall.

Those lowly slave girls came over with a cane and beat him every once in a while.

Because he was an illegitimate child, his legal mother thought he was an eyesore.

If he showed his cleverness, he would suffer all kinds of abuse.

Lacking clothes and food, not allowed to study in school, forced to do manual labor, bullied by slaves whose status was below his.

He even had a grave illness, and when he was on the verge of death, he was thrown into the woodshed to die.

He thought at the time that nobody in the world would save him.

What emperor? What big officials? What immortal lords?

They were all fake, and yet he expected others to save him.

The result was only to wait for death.

If he didn’t die, he would work hard to climb to the top of the peak and trample those who scorned him.

The dream changed, and he dreamed that he was the champion1, parading down the street.

His expression was very joyful, but his heart was abnormally calm.

Not high enough, his status was still not high enough.

His heart was like an abyss. The higher his privilege, the more he hungered, for the better.

But even when he reached the highest position, he was still unsatisfied.

What else was he lacking?

Xie Yunting was puzzled. Suddenly, someone whispered to him.

He turned around and saw standing beneath a cluster of red plum blossoms, a petite but upright figure.

Xie Yunting froze in place.

She slowly took his hand, “Tai Fu we will marry you,”

Xie Yunting looked at her and realized it was the little emperor’s face.

Xie Yunting’s voice shook, “Good.”

When he said this, his heart suddenly felt full.

【Ding. The male lead’s favorability has increased to 45,】

This notification woke up Bai Weiwei, who was dozing off on the side.

She glanced baffled at Xie Yunting, whose high fever still hadn’t gone down.

How did the favorability go up? It rose so easily.

It made her nervous.

Xie Yunting better not be making up all kinds of things in his head again.

Just as she thought this, The system announced.【Ding, The male lead dreamed that you liked him, this is the third time, two more times remaining until five lightning strikes.】

Bai Weiwei: “…”

This scum system, just thought she was an offense to its eyes and was just looking for an excuse to kill her.

This day couldn’t go by faster.

Xie Yunting didn’t know how long he had slept. When he opened his eyes, he blearily discovered a figure lying next to him.

He thought of the time he was in a daze, the small hands that kept gently soothing him.

He recognized them as the little emperor’s hands.

Xie Yunting’s cold heart covered in heat.

He didn’t expect her to care for him day and night, exhausting herself to the point that she fell asleep next to him.

He watched her fondly. “You’ve worked hard.”

【Ding, The male lead’s favorability has increased to 50.】

Then a large, unshaven face slowly made it’s appearence as the person napping by his beadside lifted their head. With big black and yellow teeth he laughed and said, “Gongzi2 woke up, not tired, I’m not tired at all3.”

【Ding. The male lead’s favorability has fallen to 45.】

The tender heart, the warm mood, the increase in favorability.

All of it was scared back by this face.

1: 高中状元: possibly referring to the 2nd highest civil exam, or the champion of the palace exams. I just can’t imagine why he would dream about being the top scholar for the 2nd highest exam when he just said that he reached peak status, so I’m assuming this means the second interpretation.↩

2: 公子: son of an official, or son of nobility.↩

3: 不辛苦,俺一点都不辛苦: 不辛苦 can also mean hard; based on context I’m pretty sure he means that it wasn’t too much work or trouble and not ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)↩
