Chapter 199: Plot-type Mission

Translator: Atlas Studios  Editor: Atlas Studios

Locking his gaze at Baizhan Yusheng’s back, a cruel gleam flashed past Lin Jie’s eyes. Lin Jie had never considered himself as a righteous gentleman. If Baizhan Yusheng’s death could disadvantage Baili Xuanyuan, that would be great.

The high Defense capabilities of a Shield Specialist had a pre-condition: his shield must be able to accurately parry their opponents’ attacks. If his shield did not come into contact with his opponent, naturally his Defense capabilities would not be of use. Considering the prowess of Lin Jie’s attack, it would not be difficult to kill Baizhan Yusheng with a Combo Attack of Forward Charge and Army Obliteration now!

“Hoo, I am full…” Gilian finally raised up her head from her Yeti feast. Her pretty little face was stained with blood all over again, making her look extremely grotesque. She patted on her tummy and commented, “Time to leave.”

After Gilian’s comments, the Secret Techniques of Clomaros shone more brightly in Lin JIe’s backpack.

‘So, it really has some connections to her?’

Shoosh—

A dark figure was seen in the distance. Lin Jie took another glance at Baizhan Yusheng’s unguarded back, gripped onto Broken Blade and asked coldly, “May I ask you an abrupt question: why are you here?”

“Why ask if you know I can’t answer you?” replied Baizhan Yusheng coolly, as he changed to another suave position.

Lin Jie rolled his eyes and couldn’t help but reveal a smile. He then turned and went into the interior of the cave.

—’You have found the map [Lost Passageway], you earned 10 Knowledge points. ‘

The usage of Knowledge points was about the same as how one would make use of their demeanor and appearance. One could use Knowledge points to uplift their status during interactions with those of the upper class. If one’s Knowledge points were high enough, they could engage in discussion with the Grand Mage. More accurately, it meant learning knowledge and information from NPCs. Take for example the Space Mage who helped to create new spaces for the Imperial City Restaurant and the Auction House, he had at least 1,000 Knowledge points! If players had opportunities to engage in discussion with him, they would be able to increase their Knowledge points!

Lin Jie looked back and saw that the entrance to the cave was being sealed up.

“Such an interesting fellow,” Lin Jie shook his head when he thought back to Baizhan Yusheng’s unruly and postmodern-styled face. That fellow’s personality was totally incompatible to his abilities—if only he was a merciless person who would ruthlessly kill off his enemies, Lin Jie could kill him resolutely without batting an eyelid. However since this chunnibyou actually “let him off”… This landed Lin Jie in a dilemma as to whether he should strike out at him.

Within the cave…

Lin Jie tried to use a Fire Torch to light up his surroundings, but other than the Fire Torch, he could see nothing else.

‘Darn it, it’s the Light Devour effect again!’

An idea occurred to Lin Jie, and he took out the Secret Techniques of Clomaros. This parchment actually shone even more brightly within the dark cavern! With the help of the parchment’s light, Lin Jie could roughly make out his surroundings. Other than the original cave, there actually was a long winding path lying in front of him.

Ding~

The Character Card in Lin Jie’s backpack shone brightly. This meant he had activated the mission!

“Master, I need replenishments,” Gilian stretched out her hands and asked Lin Jie for bread and water. This was to recover her health bar and Mana bar.

“Be patient, I have prepared lots of potions. I will provide them for you during battle. Eating too much is not good for you,” stalled Lin Jie. He suddenly remembered something—the extremely high teleportation fees to get to City of Elves. The Teleporter had mentioned that every land had their owner, and it was already a huge favor that some were allowed to break their rules.

At that time, Lin Jie presumed that as he was a player, he was the one who was a ‘rule-breaker.’ After all, being able to revive countless times as a player from the alternate realms was considered breaking the rules in the game’s world. However now… when he thought back about the Teleporter’s words, Lin Jie felt that the Teleporter NPC wasn’t referring to him, but to Gilian!

The supposedly “breaking of rules” most probably referred to how Gilian was allowed to roam freely as an NPC, who was supposed to be kept within the Gold Character Card. The “favor” would refer to himself letting Gilian out.

In other words, it meant that… Gilian was not allowed to move?

No, rather, it meant that Gilian was supposed to be sealed away!

With her powerful and peculiar Dark Magic, her grotesque eating habits and diet… even a fool could see that she was not a Night Elf!

It was wrong to assume that all NPCs from Character Cards were kind people, and as long as one could get the Character Card, they would be able to activate some hidden mission, and thus, get the rewards. In Lin Jie’s previous life, many players had been harmed by Dark Gold or even Sub-Legendary NPCs from Character Cards.

As Gilian’s Mana bar was very high, it was correct to let her remain in her weakened state so that she could not use much magic. At the very least, Lin Jie could rest assured that she could not harm him.

“Alright,” replied Gilian glumly.

—’Gilian’s favorability of you has decreased by 50.’

Lin Jie rolled his eyes secretly. ‘Wth! How come your favorability did not increase when I fed you? And now for this… such an ungrateful person!’

Using the Secret Techniques of Clomaros to light up the surroundings, Lin Jie proceeded deeper into the cave. Sharp stalactites hung down from the damp ceilings of the cave, and drops of sticky, milky-white liquid dripped down from the ceilings.

[Highly Concentrated Snowy Mountain Dew]: This is a drinkable item. It can be used for making Potions and as a material for Smithing.

Lin Jie brightened up. The Snowy Mountain Dew was sweet, and it tasted somewhat like milk. As such, this item was very popular among the aristocrats’ children. In Lin Jie’s previous life, one Potioneer had been using Snowy Mountain Dew and made items like ‘Milk Candy,’ and hence, had won the favors of all the aristocrats’ children. In the end, that Potioneer had been given some special permissions within the game!

Lin Jie quickly fished out several empty potion bottles and placed them on the ground to collect the Snowy Mountain Dew. All these could be changed to money! How could he miss out on such great opportunities to make money from the aristocrats?

Lin Jie did not care about using it to level up his Potioneering and Smithing skills. Such materials were rare to come by and were the items necessary for professional Living job gamers to level up their skills. Saying that one would still have to invest large amounts of time in training up their proficiency levels, even if they possessed these items. However, Lin Jie was not interested in becoming proficient in another Living job’s skills.

Proceeding forward, the surface of the cavern’s walls was covered with pits and holes, and there were no more clues given.

Lin Jie’s eyes gleamed, and he took up the Snowy Mountain Dew he had collected so far. He splashed all of it onto the cavern’s walls! As if defying the rules of gravity, the Snowy Mountain Dew was sucked onto the walls, and gradually revealed vivid murals on the walls.

“Just as I expected!” exclaimed Lin Jie, a huge smile on his face. Everything within a mission map could be used. This was a conclusion he had formed from the numerous missions he had completed in his previous life.

When Lin Jie stood at the first mural, the pictures on the walls seemed to bounce out and started moving, as if showing a cartoon. The story went like this: a petite human kid held on tightly to a wooden sword and stabbed out consecutively at the wooden stake in front of him!

“I must strike down the wooden stake before sunset. Or else, I am not allowed to learn swordplay…” muttered the kid.

Swoosh!

Lin Jie’s body became smaller, and he was being sucked into the mural!

—’Clomaros, strike down the wooden stake within one hour! ‘

Lin Jie looked at his status. His name had changed to ‘Clomaros.’ He was now the God of War!

[Clomaros] (Young)

Level 10

Health Points: 3,000

Attack: 150-250

Defense: 100

‘This guy’s indeed the God of War—his Stats at Level 10 was so powerful!’

Lin Jie immediately understood—this was a Plot-type Mission! In The New Age, many powerful Heroes or extraordinary figures might have some regrets before they died, or they might want to leave trials behind to challenge the future generation. Thus, they would record their personal experience in another space as a mission. Once players entered such spaces, they would replace these characters to experience their stories, and as long as one could follow the character’s way of thinking to complete the story plot, they would be able to gain the mission’s rewards.

To sum it up, this would be something like completing and actualizing the NPCs’ fantasies for them.

The story of Clomaros went like this: he was an ordinary person in his younger days, but during those tumultuous times, great heroes were needed to uphold peace. As such, everyone practiced hard to become stronger and more powerful, and even young kids would learn some combat skills. Even though Clomaros’ Stats were average, he dreamed of becoming an expert. The space which Lin Jie was in now would probably be around the time when Clomaros was trying to earn his mother’s permission to learn swordplay. Unless he could strike down the wooden stake before sunset, he would be unable to gain the permission to learn swordplay.

Lin Jie was not very certain of Clomaros’ life story. In Lin Jie’s previous life, he had spent all his energy on upgrading Broken Blade.

As such, Lin Jie decided to research some information on the players’ forums. He found the biography of Clomaros within the official historical records of the game. This book was around several hundred thousands words and recorded the life story of Clomaros when he was still a human.

Clomaros’ mother was a famous Sorceress who could make use of dead bodies and calamities to protect her own tribe’s people and kids. When Clomaros requested to learn how to use swords so that he could go to battle, she rejected him and used sorcery to make a wooden stake, telling him that unless the young Clomaros could strike down the wooden stake before sunset, he would not be allowed to learn swordplay!

The young Clomaros failed. Or else, Lin Jie would not have seen this plot.

Lin Jie grabbed hold of the wooden sword in his hands and stabbed out straight.

Dong—

Block!

The wooden stake shook and blocked off Lin Jie’s attack.

‘Can it block off attacks from all directions?’ Lin Jie went to the back of the wooden stake and struck out again.

Block!

Indeed, the wooden stake was set to block off attacks from all directions.

After a while, an idea occurred to him—could it be that the wooden stake would only block off all attacks by the young Clomaros?
