Chapter 525: Exploring Hall of Corpses

After bidding farewell to the solo players, the three of them entered the Mediumship Tower again. The few Mediumship Towers within the General’s Tomb were completely the same, so the Boss was easily killed by the experienced trio. The second Mediumship Orb was also successfully obtained.

Next was the third map, Hall of Corpses! Once they cleared this map’s Mediumship Tower, they would be able to enter the General’s Mausoleum and find the Wind Earl’s corpse.

Dark Earl said, “We’ve arrived at the Hall of Corpses, the three of us should temporarily split up and act separately! Remember to keep it for me if the two of you find any corpses with Blood Essence.”

“You also suck blood from corpses?” Very Fat’s jaw dropped. “Forget it, it’s a game, so I won’t tease you. The Halls of Corpses are all single-person maps, everyone would be randomly teleported to a hall, so there were no patterns or clues that could be found. I’ll wish the both of you to obtain a windfall within the hall beforehand.”

The Hall of Corpses was different from the other two maps. At most, only one person would be able to enter each hall. Then, a barrier would be formed, and other players would not be able to enter. Therefore, there were few players in the Hall of Corpses as the monsters in the General’s Tomb were simply too powerful. If normal players did not team up, then they would not even be able to kill the monsters. Only a few experts were daring enough to go there and farm alone.

Lin Jie put away the Mediumship Orb into the team’s backpack and said, “We’ll keep this team so that we’ll be able to enter the General’s Mausoleum together after it opens. Without further ado, let’s enter the map.”

“Sure.”

The three of them were not people that would hesitate, so they directly entered the Hall of Corpses. The scenery in front of Lin Jie changed, and he entered an eerie hall that was dimly lit. His surroundings were filled with clay statues of soldiers, which looked like Terracotta Warriors in the Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum. Once they were touched, these monsters would awaken.

“Finally, I’ve left those two guild leaders. Their observation skills, execution, and thoughts were all extremely delicate, so they were very restrictive. Being by myself is really much more comfortable.” Lin Jie stretched his body. Although Very Fat and Dark Earl were Lin Jie’s allies, and they coexisted peacefully, who could truly be able to understand others’ thoughts?

No matter what, one should not let their guard down!

After entering the Hall of Corpses, he was like a duck in water—he did not need to hide his strength anymore!

The Hall of Corpses’ interior was pitch-black, the range of the players’ visible line of sight was at most five yards, but such a distance would just nicely trigger the monsters. Therefore, it was extremely inconvenient to walk within the hall. There were some oil lamps on the stone pillars, so if players brought Fire Torches, they would be able to light up the oil lamps. However, such an action would trigger all monsters within a 60-yard radius—the results would be even worse.

“Day and Night Sight!” Lin Jie’s pupils turned white, and the white of his eyes turned black, which looked weird. In the blink of an eye, the scenery in front of Lin Jie was clear, the majestic and vast hall was visible now. There was only one main passageway in the hall, and two rows of clay soldiers stood there orderly. Their emotionless but cold expressions would cause shivers to run down one’s back.

These soldiers were all Level 65 Elites, and their health points were as high as 300,000! They would be Bosses if they were outside the hall and would need at least a ten-man team to be able to kill one of them barely.

“That is…” Lin Jie was surprised to discover a treasure chest in the middle of the row of soldiers on the left. That treasure chest shone brightly, and it was actually a Dark Gold treasure chest!

The hidden map was different from normal maps, the chances of a treasure chest appearing within the map were not high, but there would be plenty of rare materials within the hidden map! These materials may not be of much use now, but as the game progressed, they would become more critical as they were necessary to level up, fusing, and forging equipment.

Also, there was a restriction by the system in The New Age, which was the following rule: when high-level players killed low-level monsters, the drop-rate would be significantly decreased. Players would not be able to obtain large amounts of materials from overpowering the monsters, so they’d have to farm masses of monsters in one go. That would also result in the procurement of some rare materials to become extremely difficult.

Lin Jie licked his lips. The treasure chest was right in front of him, so he would be an idiot if he did not open it! Just from their appearance, the four clay statues standing around the treasure chest were obviously powerful. Those four wore heavy armor, medieval knights’ helmets, and their weapon were long spears, which were around 220cm long.

[Wind Guardian Knight] (Dark Gold Mini-Boss): Level: 65, Health Points: 750,000

As Lin Jie’s level was too low as compared to the Wind Guardian Knight, he was unable to identify the specific attributes of those few monsters. However, just from the sharp Knight’s long spear, one would be able to know that the battle powers of those few monsters were definitely powerful!

‘Even if I activated Death Rage and Clomaros’ Kill, I would not be able to kill them all, and if I triggered some other monsters, then I would definitely die.’ Lin Jie thought it through carefully. It seemed that attacking the monsters head-on was asking for the impossible, so he might need another way. The good thing was he had the Day and Night Sight’s line of sight, so he clearly distinguished the surrounding structure. It seemed like if he wanted to open the treasure chest, the best way was to pull all four Mini-Bosses away from the treasure chest.

Not only so, but he also had to accurately calculate the aggro radius of the monsters, or else, if other monsters were attracted to opening the treasure chest, it would be all over! Lin Jie used the aggro formula and calculated, besides pulling away the four Mini-Boss Knights from the treasure chest, he still needed to pull the two monsters beside it away.

‘The difficulty seems to be high.’ Lin Jie planned in his head, and after a while, he finally decided. He gradually closed into one of the stone pillars, and the Holy Light Winged Armor behind him moved. He folded his wings, and it transformed into eight fierce-looking spider legs. It was the Spider Transformation skill! After Feather Drop was activated, the Spider Transformation’s movement speed increased, and Lin Jie climbed onto the wall like a spider. He carefully climbed right on top of the four Mini-Bosses.

The clay on the four Mini-Bosses instantly fell to the ground, revealing their perfectly-preserved bodies. The four Knights had already noticed Lin Jie’s presence! Lin Jie took out Silent Killer, and two bullets were instantly shot onto the empty space in front of him. The sound of the shots hitting the ground was wholly transmitted into the Undead’s ears. In that instant, six monsters were awakened! The Mini-Bosses’ eyes turned blood-red and locked onto Lin Jie!

Whoosh—

Lin Jie jumped down and canceled the Spider Transformation state. He glided towards the back, and the four Mini-Bosses immediately waved their long spears, charging towards Lin Jie. The few Knights’ Movement Speed was over two times faster than normal players, and they chased up to the gliding Lin Jie in less than three seconds. They thrust their long spears and whirlwinds, which were formed, pierced towards Lin Jie!

Wind Spearmanship•Whirlwind Ambush!

‘Mini-Bosses that have comprehended a Mystic Skill Book!?’ Lin Jie was astonished. He used Light Empathy to interrupt the monsters’ skills, and the instant he landed on the ground, he rolled to the side, hiding behind the stone pillar. He immediately took out a bottle of Middle-Grade Stealth Potion and drank it, then his body gradually disappeared.

To Undead creatures, the effects of skills like Stealth Move would decrease greatly, but the effect of decreasing aggro radius would still be effective.

Clink! Clank!

Behind Lin Jie, the footsteps of the few Knights neared. Lin Jie held his breath and activated the Holy Light Winged Armor’s Space Movement skill, teleporting towards the treasure chest by 8 yards. He was also on all fours and kept his body as close to the ground as possible, decreasing the chances of being discovered.

The monsters looked behind the stone pillar, trying to find traces of Lin Jie.

‘Poor me, I am a Warrior, but I have to act like a Bandit.’ Lin Jie pursed his lips and headed towards the treasure chest.

The monsters would search for one minute, and if they still do not find their target in that duration, they would return to their original spot. There was no time to lose, so Lin Jie immediately started opening the treasure chest!

‘Opening of the treasure chest… 1%… 4%…’

Cold sweat could be seen dripping down Lin Jie’s forehead, but his hands were as steady as a rock and were not affected at all. When opening the treasure chest, the concentration level would also influence the speed at which one opened the treasure chest.

A minute had passed in the blink of an eye. The four Mini-Bosses and two Elites failed to find anything, so they slowly turned around and returned the same way they came.

“Hurry!” said Lin Jie anxiously as he stared at the few monsters. In fact, Lin Jie’s actions were almost perfect, so if he failed, then the problem would be attributed to the difference in jobs since Warriors did not have skills such as Strengthened Lock Picking Skill like Bandits.

Kacha—

Just as Lin Jie was panicking, the treasure chest opened along with the sound.

—’You opened a Dark Gold treasure chest and received 30 gold coins.’

—’You received the Mediumship Tower’s key and a Mediumship Orb.’

—’You received Dark Runestone x10.’

—’You received Angel’s Tear x10.’

Lin Jie felt around, and there was nothing else inside the treasure chest. Just at that moment, the four Mini-Bosses noticed Lin Jie, and they activated Wind Spearmanship, charging towards Lin Jie!

Lin Jie did not hesitate at all—he directly turned around and ran away!

The strongest strike of a Knight was the attack after storing power from the charge. If Lin Jie were to receive their strikes, he would definitely be in critically low health or might even die. The rare materials within the treasure chest were already obtained, so it was the most suitable time to escape!

In the process of running, Lin Jie checked the loot he obtained.

30 gold coins! However, now gold coins were no longer as valuable as they were in the past. That was because as the battles gradually stopped, many guilds and organizations mainly focused on developing peacefully. Thus, the demand for gold coins started to drop, and in addition, the number of gold coins obtained increased as the levels of players were raised, therefore further reducing the exchange rate of the gold coins.

The key to the Mediumship Tower… Obtaining it was not strange, but why was another Mediumship Orb dropped? He now had three Mediumship Orbs in his hands, and if he cleared the Mediumship Tower of Hall of Corpses too, then he would be able to obtain four Mediumship Orbs. The number of Mediumship Orbs had exceeded the amount needed to open the General’s Mausoleum?

As Lin Jie was in doubt, he stuffed the orbs into his backpack—there must be some meaning behind it.

The Dark Runestone was a rare material used to forge equipment. There would be chances of a Rune Indentation formed if it were added into equipment. Such a type of rare material was an extremely precious item.

Don’t just see that the Gold and Dark Gold items were valuable currently. As the levels of players increased, these items would all be changed into those of higher levels, and thus their value would decrease. However, rare materials were different as there was only a single type of rare material that would be dropped in each stage of levels. For example, the rare material Cat Demon’s Eye dropped from the Level 10 monster Wild Shadow Cat was difficult to obtain unless one went to buy them from low-level players.

Rare materials were the only items where their values could be maintained!

The final loot was the Angel’s Tear. It was also a rare material that had a wide range of usage. Some prodigal rich Potioneers would use Angel’s Tear to create potions as it was almost 100% guaranteed that they would be able to break through the bottleneck. The price of a drop of Angel’s Tear was comparable to a Dark Gold Fragment.

The instant Lin Jie obtained that item, a fluctuation could be felt from the Follower Space, and immediately after, Lin Jie heard a system prompt message. At that, he did not know whether to laugh or cry.

—’Your Mystic Skill Book [Sea Riding Skill] ‘s final skill [Wrath of Sea] has been activated.’

It was the same as the last time at the Ice Shrine where Mermaid Princess Herya had taken it upon herself to do a transaction with Lin Jie. Lin Jie had just obtained the Angel’s Tears, but the Mermaid Princess already absorbed them.
