Chapter 564: Star Elf

Translator: Atlas Studios  Editor: Atlas Studios

A long time ago, a race had existed in The New Age—Star Elf. They possessed the Elf-like beautiful features and scheming demon-like intelligence, which had allowed them to populate the region rapidly. This, in turn, had contributed to their rich history and legacy throughout the times. The Star Elves had once had the potential to rule over the land, but their ambitions had disallowed them to be satisfied with ruling over just The New Age.

The zealous Star Elves had created a gigantic magic circle, able to absorb the destiny of living creatures to provide additional life force for their citizens. The large magic circle known as the [Brilliant Circle of Life] had cast a shadow upon the entire land as countless lives were lost due to it. The Star Elves had also begun their journey to immortality.

After fulfilling their wish of immortality, their greed had inflated, and their next goal had been to achieve God-like status. They had succeeded in coaxing the kind Moon Goddess into the magic circle and absorbed her godly powers. Ultimately, she had died for the entire region in order to seal up this entire race. This was how the Star Elves’ Tomb had come about.

Surprise flashed through Lin Jie’s eyes, and his eyes fell on the large nest-like structure in front of him. It was the legendary Star Elves’ Tomb, where the Moon Goddess had fallen! Starlight lit up its surroundings, giving it an ethereal glow. In the center, a huge light ray shot towards the sky, as though it was inducting the powers from the deep beyond.

“Brothers, we have reached our destination,” announced Lin Jie.

Behind him, many sucked in deep breaths of excitement as they took in the sight before them. Indeed, this was a Level 80 map! All the monsters inside had completed their second Job-Change and were powerful beings that possessed advanced skills! This would normally be a restricted area, but today, they were being led there by Lin Jie.

This was a map that triggered only respect and the conquest mindset. However, beneath Lin Jie’s aura, all these seemed insignificant.

“Now, I will demonstrate the Star Elf’s attack. Fire, get a monster over here,” said Lin Jie, and a horse archer scuttled out with a crossbow in hand. He aimed at one of the guarding monsters and fired. At that instant, he threw out the crossbow, and it swerved in four different directions!

He was using a quadruplet crossbow, and three of the arrows shot towards the feet of the left Star Elf. The monster turned reflexively, and the last arrow bit onto the monster on the right like a poisonous snake. Aggro was locked, and that Star Elf bolted over! After the monster on the left checked on what was happening, the distance between them was far enough such that aggro would not be activated.

“Good job!” praised Lin Jie. None of the Brotherhood’s members should be underestimated! After tossing the horse archer a laudable glance, Lin Jie switched his focus to the monster in front of him.

Star Elves used to be the most good-looking race in the region, but due to the Moon Goddess’ curse, their appearance had begun to mutate towards the likes of an alien. Their head grew bulbous as their body became illusory and shone with starlight, their hands also became blade-like.

[Star Elves’ Tomb Guardian] (Elite): Level 80, Health Points: 190,000

The exact details of the monster could not be detected, but Lin Jie vaguely remembered that it had an Attack Power of around 3,000 points with an exceptionally high Magic Defense. However, it’s physical Defense was slightly weaker, and the Orc slaves should be able to get past it. In his previous life, Lin Jie had led a team there for a mission before, but it was only to slay monsters at the entrance—he had not managed to explore the interior.

Two weeks later, the Star Elves’ Tomb had gotten locked down by guilds, and it had been rumored that they had found something of great value inside.

“There are two Paladins and two Warriors, one Ice Mage, and one Bandit.” Lin Jie whipped out his Broken Blade and got into a battle pose. Six men stood out from the team as there was some scuffling. They were the six strongest men amongst the laggards, and they were extremely worked up about getting the chance to fight alongside Lone Wolf.

Army Obliteration!

-783! -794! -755! -1,283!

Lin Jie frowned as he pondered. Although the monster’s physical Defense wasn’t high, its level suppression was insanely high—this resulted in a great decrease in the damage it would suffer. Furthermore, the Star Elves had unique body types and illusory physiques. They would reduce the control effect by 90% when they were under control.

After getting a hit on his first attempt, Lin Jie retreated and shouted, “Warrior, attack now, use Taunt!”

One of the Warriors bolted up and got into defense mode as he growled and attracted the aggro using Taunt. The Star Elf changed its target immediately and whipped out a silvery-white cross with its blade as it sliced towards the soldier! As Level 80 monsters, the Star Elves had been through their second level-up, and all of their techniques were able to suppress the players’ advanced skills. The cross slice emitted frosty aura and caused the Warrior difficulty in opening his eyes.

“Paladin, Divine Shield, block! Summon the slaves and output!” Lin Jie commanded as his Blade Aura continued to emit. Every attack had around 500 points of output. The Paladin activated Divine Shield immediately and summoned the Orc slaves. He made the intelligent move of using them as the shields between him and the monster.

-3,726! (Resisted)

-3,948! (Resisted)

The chains of damage creeped the Paladin out.

“Great job.” Lin Jie encouraged as the 300 men were intelligent enough to understand his motive easily. For example, the Paladin ordered the Orc slaves to block the monster’s attacks out of his own accord. The Orc slaves’ green skin swelled up, and the various weapons blasted towards the Star Elf as they brought about a chain of over 300 points.

“Paladin, retreat. Bandit, attack with Forced Invisibility and Deceive!”

The moment the Divine Shield was deactivated, the Orc slaves provided a way for the Paladin to escape. The Bandit saw the opportunity and took his place as he used Forced Invisibility in response to the Star Elf’s attack. Force Invisibility had 0.5 seconds of invincibility. He followed up closely with Deceive, which resulted in the Star Elf’s attack to fall onto a piece of broken wood.

The Star Elf’s health points decreased by 20%. It was unsuccessful in reaching anyone during this period and did not cause any damage! Instead, it was being constrained by the Warrior and Paladin, who managed to inflict huge amounts of damage thanks to the Orc slaves and Lin Jie.

“You guys know what to do now, right? Attack!” Lin Jie glanced at the crowd, and many nodded their heads as they joined in the fight. A selected few were confused, so they did not want to take the risk of making a mistake.

The battle method was simple, and it could be summarised in two techniques: Aggro shift and attack block-out.

The easiest method for the former would be to let the Warriors take turns to unleash Taunt, however, under normal circumstances, why would there be so many Warriors? Hence, what they really needed to do was to control the damage amongst themselves, for them to shift the aggro at any time! This was the basic requirement for an outstanding team!

The latter was an advanced technique. Many players could block attacks using buildings, energy pillars, and etc. However, it would be much harder to use the Orc slaves. This would require their concentration to control both at once, and teamwork was vital in the prevention of mistakes!

A series of 300 damage points floated from the Star Elf’s head as its health bar was slowly drained. The main contribution force to these damage values were not the players, but instead the Orc slaves! Although they were well-equipped, they were still unable to match up to a Level 80 Elite.

What they had to do was to cooperate!

They consisted of 300 people, so even if someone slipped up, the rest would swarm up to correct that mistake. Very soon, the experimental rat died, and they all got a small number of experience points!

The experience points the 300 men could get from slaying a Level 80 Elite were meager.

The Star Elf dropped an item.

[Uniform equipment: Twilight Armour Blueprint]: 1/20. After completing the collection, you can learn how to create the armor according to the blueprint.

—System prompt message: The Uniform Equipment Blueprint can allow five groups of Blacksmiths, Tailors, and Leathersmiths to learn and create together. The equipment attributes will be affected by their creators’ skill proficiency level. The Uniform equipment has the set effect and will be activated once the number of players equipped with the particular armor is reached.

Lin Jie explored the equipment’s attributes in the blueprint.

[Twilight Armor] (Gold, Uniform Equipment)

Requires: Level 50

Defense: 195-300

Strength: +35

Endurance: +35

Additional effect: Twilight protection. Your Defense will be increased by 5%, and your Health Points will successfully be increased by 150 units.

Additional effect: The Uniform equipment’s set effect will be activated once it reaches a certain number.

‘Great!’ Lin Jie smiled slightly as this was just the thing he needed! Although the twilight armor’s equipment attribute wasn’t great, once its additional effects were activated, it would be powerful!

After everyone managed to slay the Level 80 Elite, they tossed their glances towards Lin Jie. He wouldn’t want the 300 men to continue fighting collaboratively, right? This efficiency wouldn’t even match up to training at a Level 40 map.

“Here, will be the training ground for the next month!” Lin Jie said, “From now on, form your own teams and select a group leader. The group leader will have a simple task, to lead your team in slaying a Star Elf in the shortest possible time! Furthermore, I have another small requirement. There should not be more than ten people per team. The first team to slay a Star Elf will be rewarded with a Dark Gold item and a Dark Gold Skill Book!

“The team to kill a Star Elf with five men or less will be rewarded with a clue to a Sub-Legendary item!

“If anyone manages to slay it singlehandedly, I will help you create a tailor-made Sub-Legendary item!”

Various rewards fell from Lin Jie’s mouth!

Everyone’s eyes flashed with excitement as they understood the meaning of such fine rewards! For the sake of the rewards, as well as to power themselves up, they had to give it their all!

“I have one more rule.” Lin Jie said seriously, “If anyone overestimates their own abilities and die here, they will be chased out of the Star Elves’ Tomb and their Orc slave will be confiscated. Do you understand?”

“Yes!” The 300 men agreed in unison!

They knew that this was Lin Jie’s method of preventing players from risking it all but ending up losing it all as well. In Brotherhood, an individual’s ability was important, but what’s more, was their team spirit.
