Chapter 1286: Practical Lesson In Childbirth

The Beast Deity remained unmoved. “Have you ever seen someone give birth halfway and then stop?”

Gu Mengmeng was speechless by his retort.

There was no other choice. In this realm, the Beast Deity had absolute control over everything. Even though she and Elvis were both Beast Kings, they were completely powerless here.

So no matter how much she wished to reach out and save Elvis, or how much he struggled to escape from this torture—as long as the Beast Deity didn’t assent, it would be all for naught.

Hence Gu Mengmeng just stood there dumbly and helplessly outside the barrier. She stared on as Elvis still smiled at her despite his immense pain, conveying the message: I am fine, don’t be afraid. I can hold on.

Finally, after enduring the long and arduous labor pains, he entered the giving birth stage.

But that tall, strapping hunk of a man, Elvis, collapsed to his knees as his legs gave out from the tremendous pain. He gasped for breath like a fish on land, as if oxygen was a luxury to him now.

Gu Mengmeng clenched her fists tightly and bit down on her lips. She was unable to tear her gaze from Elvis’ face as she said softly, “Daddy, I understand your intentions now.”

“Mmm?” The Beast Deity asked gently.

Gu Mengmeng gave a bitter smile. “You not only wanted Elvis to experience the pain I endured during childbirth. You always want me to understand how terrible and helpless he and Lea felt when they saw me in the painful throes of labor.”

When Gu Mengmeng turned to look at the Beast Deity, a faint smile played about her lips even as her eyes were full of tears. “Daddy, thank you for your efforts. I understand now.”

The Beast Deity finally let out a big sigh. He nodded with a smile.

“Ah…!” With one final earth-splitting howl by Elvis, this “practical lesson on childbirth” finally ended.

The Beast Deity waved and the transparent barrier faded away.

Gu Mengmeng went forward to support the exhausted Elvis. She held his head and kissed him. “Is it still painful? Mmm?”

Elvis reached out to hold Gu Mengmeng tightly in his arms. With a choked voice, he said, “I… I have let you suffer. I am sorry… Xiao Meng… sorry…”

The Beast Deity nodded with satisfaction, but wasn’t that kind to let them continue hugging.

Holding Gu Mengmeng by the neck, he drew her out from Elvis’ embrace before smacking him to a far distance. “Hugging my daughter right in front of me. Do you have a death wish?”

Elvis felt very aggrieved. Couldn’t he hug his own wife…

He forced his weak and fatigued body to walk back toward Gu Mengmeng. This time, he was not trapped in a spot but could clearly feel himself nearing her with every step.

Gu Mengmeng wanted to go forward to welcome him but the Beast Deity held on to her shoulders. He shook his head. “It is not that easy to gain my daughter’s hand in marriage. If he can’t even endure these few steps toward you, how can he accompany you in even more arduous journeys in the future?”

Gu Mengmeng’s heart ached for Elvis’ suffering, but she was helpless.

Elvis smiled at Gu Mengmeng. “Xiao Meng, don’t worry. No matter how far you are, I will find you. Even the mountains and seas cannot stop me from walking toward you. You don’t need to come over, just stay where you are and wait for me. Don’t run away. Don’t hide. Don’t abandon me… that is all I ask.”

Gu Mengmeng stood in place and reached out one hand. “I will wait for you to come take my hand and bring me home.”

Elvis nodded and stepped toward Gu Mengmeng. He then grasped her hand firmly in his own and stood with her, facing the Beast Deity. “Lord Beast Deity, please give me Xiao Meng’s hand.”
