Chapter 157: Greed and Madness (3)
“FIRE! FIRE!”
It was then that an explosion was heard throughout the night sky. Everyone shivered at the sudden sound. Fear swept across the soldiers and it turned the camp into chaos. People began to run in multiple directions as Joonbum and his knights rode upon them, killing every soldier in their path. Then, as the fires spread to the food supplies, the surviving soldiers realized they had to put the fire out first.
“PUT THE FIRE OUT! BRING WATER!”
“SAVE THE FOOD!”
“PUT IT OUT WITH DIRT!”
“THE NOBLES ARE DEAD!”
“THE BARISMAN BROTHERS ARE DEAD!”
“BARON HOLLEN IS DEAD!”
The death of the nobles spread quickly and no one seemed to be in the right mind to lead.
“Haha, Horun is full of weaklings!”
“You got that right.”
Hectos did not reply as Veriman agreed with him. They had gained the respect for each other as powerful knights. Both smiled at each other and began moving out.
“Let’s move!”
Hectos frowned, “Ugh, old man, you sure have lots of energy.”
“Let’s go!”
They began moving about. The enemy soldiers began running away. They saw no hope in fighting anymore as they had lost their leaders and knights. There was no honor. All that was left was for them to survive.
*
“Roland! So you brought him here?”
An older soldier took a young soldier out of the chaos to a hiding place. There were more soldiers in hiding.
“Yeah, I knew his father.”
“Ha, he’s lucky.”
“You, listen carefully. If this is a large scale ambush, we should run to the east. If not, it will quiet down soon. We will move accordingly. Bill! Do you have it?”
“Yeah.”
Roland looked at the item given to him and frowned.
“Is this all?”
“Yeah, I barely managed. Make sure you hide it well. There’s no more food.”
There was a horse neighing from nearby.
“Follow me!”
“What? We should hide!”
“No, a horse!”
“Horse?”
“They can be a good source of food.”
“Oh!”
They began walking out and found a dying horse nearby. They took out their daggers and killed it, then they cut off the flesh before they escaped.
That was the state of the Horun Empire’s first battle fleet.
*
‘It’s too easy.’ Joonbum thought as he glanced around. It was far different from his expectations. These men were no match for him or his knights.
“You! WHO ARE YOU?”
A knight with a halberd came to him on a horse. He didn’t hold onto the horse, but his legs were tied down so he could move freely while riding.
“Taste my wra-”
His head exploded with a gunshot. The horse was startled and neighed as it ran off with the master still above it. The body hung helplessly from the saddle as the blood flowed from the open head wound. Joonbum then turned to other soldiers around and spoke.
“Go back to your homes. Don’t expect to go back alive if you come here again.”
Joonbum then roamed around to kill the other enemy knights. One pull of the trigger of his shotgun usually was enough to kill them instantly. Some servants charged at him in rage, but after another shot was fired they quieted down. All the other soldiers turned pale and ran away.
‘It’s over.’
The war was over, so it was time to go home. Joonbum began riding out of the campsite. It was an easy victory.
‘This is so easy. But how many will there be if the main army comes here?’
He thought there was around three thousand at first, but it seemed like there were more.
‘I don’t care how many there are, but the problem is I can’t win forever.’
People were uneducated, but not dumb. There was the possibility that they would learn the weakness of Joonbum’s weapons and begin fighting back. There was no telling what might happen.
‘I brought enough to last ten years, but if the war goes on…’
Hectos came to Joonbum and shouted, “SIR! We should go now!”
Joonbum turned and found that the other knights had gathered around.
“Let’s return!”
They began returning home.
