Chapter 164: Battle of the Gerald Plains (3)
“Duke! Argh!”
Hallis stood up at once and hit his head on the top of the vehicle. He then shook his head and jumped out of it. Blood was flowing from the top of his head.
“Hey! You’re bleeding!”
“Hallis! Your bleeding from your head!”
“It’s okay! Let’s get that duke now!”
“RUN!”
Knights who just jumped off approached the nobles and enemy knights. They backed away.
“DEVILS!”
“MONSTERS!”
They were frightened as Hallis walked over to them with a bloody face. He frowned.
“Who are you calling a devil? I’m too handsome for that!”
He then charged with his flail drawn at the knight blocking the way. The enemy knight was blown away by the impact as Hallis threw himself onto him with a full body blow. The knight’s neck was broken and he was dead.
“MONSTER!”
Someone shouted in horror again.
“DAMMIT!”
Hallis shouted angrily and swung his flail at another knight. The sword that was held up to block it shattered and the iron ball crushed down the helmet. He couldn’t even scream. Blood poured out from the helmet.
“Wow. This is so cool,” Hallis said at his flail. It was really light, but the strength was unimaginable. It was one of the many that Joonbum gave out. These were legendary weapons.
‘He just gave this away!’
He saw his fellow knight slashing his sword at an opponent, cutting down the sword that was used to block the attack. It was unbelievable. He felt a chill coming to him as he thought what would have happened if he faced an enemy with such a weapon.
“Hallis! It’s the duke!”
Someone shouted at an old man in lavish clothing, looking confused among the tens of knights and nobles. People around him were shaken up. Hallis and the knights began approaching.
“STOP THEM! THE DUKE IS IN DANGER!”
Some knight shouted and soldiers began gathering to form a blockade of shields. The steel shields were made to connect to each other so they could form a defense line. Hallis and the knights saw the old man smirking from behind.
“DAMN THE OLD MAN! HE SMIRKED AT US! I’LL PULL YOUR BEARD OUT IF I GET YOU!” Hallis shouted angrily and the duke’s face turned red with rage. He never heard such insults directly at him in his entire life.
“HOW DARE YOU SPEAK IN FRONT OF ME! YOU DIRTY RAT! COME IF YOU CAN PENETRATE THAT WALL!”
The duke shouted at Hallis. The shields looked extremely durable. There was no use. That was when he heard a voice from behind.
“I will clear a path. Hallis, go bring that duke’s head.”
‘Sir Joonbum!’
Halis shook at the voice. That was when Joonbum showed up on top of the Marauder on a machine gun. Thundering explosions were heard and soldiers fell, screaming in agony. The shields, the armor, and their bodies were penetrated by the bullets and blood poured out like fountains. Every soldier who stood in the way were either dead or screaming in pain.
‘IT’S HELL!’
It was like hell on earth. The area was filled with pain and death with blood all over. The knights, soldiers, and everything that stood in the way were left dead.
It was a massacre.
The gunshots stopped, leaving behind gunpowder smog in the area. The entire army that blocked the way to duke was dead.
‘The duke!’
Hallis ran out, followed by other knights. Some who survived saw them advancing, but they did not stand up to fight. When Joonbum finished reloading, the surviving soldiers began to flee.
“DEVIL! KHALODIAN DEVIL!”
“RUN! HE’S THE DEMON!”
Soldiers began fleeing left and right. Knights and nobles also began fleeing in multiple directions. They were never close to death even when they were out on the battlefield. But when they noticed death so close to them, the terror they felt was unbearable.
“HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE- ARGH!”
Hallis punched the duke’s face. His face was turned abruptly and he almost fell. Hallis took him on his shoulder.
“Let’s go back.”
“We’re going back!”
It was done so quickly.
“NO! DUKE!”
“WE HAVE TO FLEE! HE IS EVIL! WE CAN’T FIGHT SUCH MONSTERS!”
“BUT-”
“GIVE IT UP! WE’LL NEGOTIATE FOR RELEASE LATER!”
Nobles looked like they were unwilling to abandon the duke. But when they found a noble dead with a bunch of huge holes in their body, they made up their mind.
“R-retreat. Let’s retreat!”
A war drum signaling retreat sounded. Meanwhile, Joonbum was starting to radio the camp as the other knights just finished jumping into the vehicle.
“Mission complete! We have the duke. Block their passage and capture all the merchants and enemies! Send out the Gerekstal!”
“Yes, sir!”
Jackson shouted from the radio. The Gerekstal began charging at once. There was no one to fight them head to head as the main force was massacred by Joonbum. The Marauder then moved about the battlefield, herding the enemy like a pack of sheep. The war lasted for a day. Soldiers could not rest as they had to flee from the Marauder constantly and soon fell to the ground, exhausted. It was late afternoon when the white flag was put up. They surrendered.
The horn of victory sounded throughout the plains. The war was over.
“This was so easy. Was any war this easy before?”
“Yeah. I didn’t do anything other than shout.”
“I haven’t done anything to show off.”
Some soldiers were talking to themselves as the war was over. But that was only the story on the side of the Khalodian soldiers. The Empire Army was put to hell. They were stripped of their arms and were taken to the Ainos village as prisoners.
Joonbum’s reputation began to grow with the war.
