Chapter 365: Battle with the Mechanical Beast

“Welcome to the trial of machines. Defeat the three mechanical beasts to complete the trial.
“According to prior statistics from past trial-takers, the probability of survival from this trial is five percent; successful completion gives you the chance to receive the inheritance of mechanical engineering. Do you accept this trial?”
Bai Ling’s voice sounded within the chamber again, and it seemed to be even colder and more forbidding this time.
An Lin rolled his eyes after hearing the reward for this trial. Was the inheritance going to turn him into a f*cking mechanical engineer?
“Let the trial begin!”
Regardless of what the inheritance was, An Lin’s objective was to empty the whole set of ruins anyway, so he just had to defeat whatever was thrown at him!
An opening appeared on the wall as three mechanical beasts emerged, all of them emitting extremely powerful auras.
There were three beasts, comprising of a shiny golden lion, a massive crimson wolf, and a wild horse with lightning flashing around its body.
“Haha, mechanical beasts?”
An Lin’s eyes lit up.
The lion roared, and a plume of scorching flames shot forth from its mouth before fanning outward as it swept toward An Lin.
An Lin leaped into the air, and his storage ring began to flash.
“You think you can fight me in a battle of machines? Let me give you a taste of your own medicine!!
“Gundam One, Gundam Two, go!”
Two metallic white figures appeared in the air as his storage ring flashed.
At this moment, the giant crimson wolf’s backside split open to become a jetpack, and its body quickly accelerated to form a crimson streak as it launched itself toward An Lin.
Sharp metal claws tore through the air and converged on An Lin.
Right at this moment, a silver figure appeared in front of An Lin and slashed a particle sword toward the approaching metallic claws!
A high-pitched screech erupted from the clash between sword and claws, and the seemingly-indestructible wolf claws were torn apart by the particle sword. Meanwhile, the other Gundam had already aimed its cannon straight at the giant crimson wolf.
Boom!
A powerful blast of energy burst forth, creating an explosion of energy and heat which blasted the crimson wolf straight into the ground, where it lay motionlessly and seemed to have lost its capacity for movement.
“Hahaha, noob, my Gundams are the true machines here!”
An Lin roared with triumphant laughter as he stood with his hands on his hips.
Bai Ling’s enraged voice sounded from within the chamber.
“An Lin! You’re cheating! Put your bloodline mechanical creations away or get the f*ck out of here!”
An Lin faltered slightly at her words. “You can’t do that, Gundam One and Gundam Two are my possessions, so they’re an extension of my power.”
“Three.
“Two.”
…
An Lin was given a fright by Bai Ling’s countdown, and he immediately stowed his Gundams away into his storage ring.
It was only then that her countdown concluded.
“Alright, alright. You have bigger boobs, so I’ll listen to whatever you say.” An Lin pursed his lips in dissatisfaction as he muttered, “It’s not like I can’t beat these mechanical beasts without them anyway. It’s just that I have not used Gundam One and Gundam Two for a long time, and I’m just taking them out for a spin so they don’t rust.”
Dazzling bolts of lightning burst forth from the mechanical horse’s body and flashed toward An Lin like a bolt of lightning.
An Lin’s expression remained calm, and he drew his Evil-Slaying Sword as his eyes turned snowy white.
The mechanical horse which was moving at blinding speed was instantly revealed to be a target with countless chinks in its defense.
Whoosh!
A black sword projection imbued with the true intent of the Six Techniques of the War God was slashed out toward the mechanical horse.
The black sword projection disappeared after a short instant, and An Lin’s body also managed to evade the wild horse’s charge at the same moment.
The blue lightning around the wild horse was still flashing, but its head had already been decapitated and was now falling through the air.
Boom!
The mechanical horse fell to the ground with a resounding boom, and the electricity around them was beginning to dim.
Da Bai was still engaged in battle with the golden lion, and the clashes between the two of them swept up gale-force winds around them.
Aside from having a domain, the lion possessed the speed, power, and defensive prowess of a Soul Formation Initial Stage cultivator, so it was no surprise that Da Bai was still unable to take care of its opponent.
An Lin was not in a hurry to help him out. Instead, he made his way toward the crimson wolf that had been blasted into the ground by the two Gundams. He gripped his Evil-Slaying Sword in his hand and approached the wolf to see if a finishing blow was required.
Sure enough, the mechanical wolf was not dead, and it immediately released an energy blast from its mouth after sensing An Lin’s approach.
An Lin was already prepared for this, and he evaded the attack using his Divine Inspection Technique. He then used his Evil-Slaying Sword and slashed through the air, chopping the mechanical wolf into pieces!
“Phew, another one bites the dust.”
An Lin was finally in the mood to look at how Da Bai was going.
Da Bai’s battle with the lion had already progressed to its climax. Da Bai was already up to the fifteenth technique of his Eighteen Forms Dog Pounce.
“Wild Battle Canine, woof!”
Da Bai twisted his body, and his Chaotic Sky-Crushing Claws formed corkscrew saber projections which swept toward the lion.
The lion spat forth a wave of scorching flames, only to have it be reduced to specks of crimson sparks by the corkscrew saber projections.
The mechanical lion was extremely shocked at having its attack dispelled so easily, and it immediately unleashed its second mystic technique— Lion Roar Technique!
“Roar!” It unleashed a thunderous roar, creating devastating soundwaves which collided with corkscrew saber projections before crashing into Da Bai’s body.
Da Bai’s body flew back like a cannonball as blood gushed forth from his mouth.
The golden lion took advantage of this opportunity to pounce toward Da Bai with a metallic gleam emanating from its sharp claws.
An Lin’s expression shifted as white Wings of Wind began to spread open on his back.
“Divine Dog’s Tail Wag, woof!”
In this moment of peril, Da Bai twisted his body and blades of wind materialized on his Chaotic Sky-Crushing Claws before slashing down toward the lion’s head in the form of ten dazzling blue crescents.
The screech of metal on metal reverberated throughout the whole space as sparks flew around them. The lion was still in the process of lunging forward, but its head had already been separated from its body, and it flew through the air in a clumsy arc.
“Nice!” An Lin couldn’t help but applaud Da Bai’s perfect counterattack.
Da Bai wiped the blood from the corner of his lips with a slight smile. “So what if lions are the kings of the animal kingdom? They still can’t escape the fate of death at my paws, woof!”
“Your flexing is on point as well!” An Lin continued to applaud.
“Congratulations, you’ve passed the trial of machines, please stop flexing and f*ck off to the next trial.”
Bai Ling’s cold voice sounded within the chamber, and it seemed to contain a hint of resentment.
An Lin felt like she was probably only agitated after seeing the two Gundams, so he didn’t think too much of it. He passed a Blood Spirit Pill to Da Bai, and they rested for a while longer before continuing onward.
After passing through the next gate, An Lin and Da Bai arrived in a dark space.
This was a type of darkness that could truly be referred to as pitch black. There was not even a slight glimmer of light, and both of them felt as if they had descended into the bottom of an abyss where darkness and death were the only two constants.
“Welcome to the trial of darkness. There’s a clone shadow demon here. Find it and defeat it to pass this trial. According to prior statistics from past trial-takers, the probability of survival for this trial is zero. Do you accept this trial?” Bai Ling’s voice sounded again.
An Lin finally began to get a bit more serious after hearing the survival probability for this trial was zero.
He was very confident when attempting trials with a survival probability in excess of zero. After all, he didn’t think there was anyone more capable than him under Soul Formation Stage, so if there were others who could complete the trial, he would definitely be able to do so as well.
However, he knew better than to underestimate the trials with survival probabilities of zero as they represented a different type of challenge. Take the Trial of Destruction as an example; that was essentially an insurmountable trial in a sense.
An Lin took a deep breath before replying, “I accept!”
