Chapter 1664: Sect Leader Statue
“Hey, Yingxiong, don’t you find it strange that our Pavilion Lord Bai is so happy despite our sect leader’s death this time?” Dong Zhen had her arms wound around Cheng Yingxiong’s arm as she spoke in a quiet voice.
Nearby, Bai Ling was in her usual white robe, watering some plants while humming a joyful tune.
“I don’t get it either. When sect leader first died a hundred years ago, Pavilion Lord Bai was depressed for a very very long time. But she’s so happy now for some reason…” Cheng Yingxiong scratched his head with a confused expression.
One of Dong Zhen’s fox tails suddenly slapped Cheng Yingxiong in the backside.
“Hey! What are you doing?” Cheng Yingxiong was given a fright.
Dong Zhen’s seductive features were glowing with excitement. “I’ve always felt like Pavilion Lord Bai shares some sort of indescribable relationship with Sect Leader An Lin. Could it be that her jealousy toward An Lin and Xiaolan’s relationship bred hatred, so she’s deriving a twisted sense of elation from Sect Leader An Lin’s death?”
Cheng Yingxiong was astonished. “That’s f*cked up…”
Right at this moment, a light particle sword suddenly rested itself on Cheng Yingxiong and Dong Zhen’s necks.
Terrifying killing intent threatened to freeze space itself, and the two people who were conversing spiritedly with one another just a moment ago were now too scared to even move as they felt like their heads would be chopped off if they made even the slightest of movements!
“Cheng Yingxiong, you seem to have a lot of time on your hands. Have you finished reading ‘Micro-variation String Resonance Calculation Method’?” Bai Ling’s emotionless voice sounded.
Cheng Yingxiong was trembling uncontrollably. “N… not yet…”
“Hehe, you haven’t finished, yet you’re taking a stroll here? What a carefree life you lead.” Bai Ling looked at Cheng Yingxiong with a hint of a smile on her face.
“I’m sorry, Pavilion Lord Bai! I’ll get back to reading right now!”
Cheng Yingxiong apologized like a small child who had done something wrong.
The light particle sword was only lifted from their necks then.
Cheng Yingxiong and Dong Zhen’s clothes were drenched with cold sweat as they hurriedly bade farewell to Bai Ling before running for their lives.
They had been taught a very important lesson. Talking sh*t about Bai Ling could spell their deaths!
Bai Ling shook her head and chuckled at the sight of the two people fleeing into the distance before continuing to attend to her flowers.
“Why are these disciples so into gossip…”
Bai Ling smiled to herself before being struck by the feeling that something was not quite right.
“Wait! Why would Dong Zhen say that? Could it be that I really do feel something for An Lin…”
Bai Ling was a little dumbstruck by this thought. Water was still flowing from the watering can in her hand, but she didn’t even notice.
She shook her head after a while to rid herself of these absurd thoughts.
“Geez, I almost got influenced by them. Looks like I have to give them more homework next time. They’re definitely not getting enough homework if Cheng Yingxiong and Dong Zhen still have the time to enter a relationship,” Bai Ling muttered to herself as she continued to water her plants.
At this moment, on the drill grounds of the Four Nine Immortal Sect.
Spell techniques boomed relentlessly.
There were many sect disciples working hard and cultivating on the drill grounds.
There were also a dozen or so disciples who were paying their respects to the statue at the center of the drill grounds.
This was a statue of their Sect Leader An Lin, a legendary figure on the continent.
All disciples of the Four Nine Immortal Sect revered their sect leader.
Unfortunately, their sect leader had only just come back from the dead briefly before dying again.
He was like fireworks, dazzling while he lasted, but leaving all onlookers with a forlorn sense of loss once he disappeared.
He had become the number one celebrity in the entire Tai Chu Continent after destroying the Southern Heavenly Human Tribe United Army, as well as the Southern Heavenly Gate. But just when it looked like he was going to lead the human race to victory in this war, he died again.
The entire continent was shocked again as a result!
Wasn’t An Lin supposed to be an unfathomably powerful man who was a beacon of hope to the entire human race?
But now, he had been slain by a formidable lineup of five Heavenly Gods after killing the most powerful being in the Sinister Spirit Beast Cesspool.
The disciples looked at An Lin’s statue and recalled his smile and his voice, and all of them had tears welling up in their eyes.
These were the group of newbie disciples who had only just joined the sect about a month ago. Sun Yuluo had led them to this very same statue when they first entered this sect, and they had paid their respects to their deceased sect leader, just as what they were doing now.
Just when they were bowing to the statue of their sect leader, their sect leader came back to life and gave them a massive fright!
After all, their sect leader lived up to and even exceeded his legendary status! All of them were extremely proud to have such a legendary sect leader!
However, they were soon struck by a nightmare once again…
They were standing before An Lin’s statue once again in a scene reminiscent of what had taken place about a month ago.
The only difference this time was that Sect Leader An Lin really was dead.
Many places all over the Tai Chu Continent were already in mourning, and the Four Nine Immortal Sect had refused to issue a statement, which was actually an admission of sorts.
This news had been confirmed by both enemies and allies, so there was no doubting its authenticity.
“Waah…” A beautiful female disciple burst into tears.
“Don’t cry, Tao Manman. Our sect leader’s deceased spirit would not want to see us wallow in grief. We should cultivate hard and avenge our sect leader!” Male disciple Meng Wei delivered a stirring statement.
Another female disciple, Su Siqing, rained on his parade. “Vengeance would be impossible. Our enemies are the Heavenly Gods, and we’re not supremely talented freaks, so how are we going to take revenge? We’re just going to progress like snails and await our deaths.”
“Su Siqing, how could you carry such a pessimistic mindset?” a voice sounded from nearby.
All of the disciples turned before immediately extending a respectful salute, “Brother Sun.”
Sun Yuluo nodded before continuing in an earnest voice, “Have you forgotten what our sect leader has told you? All of the Four Nine Immortal Sect members are protagonists of this world! All protagonists have limitless potentials, so don’t establish an upper limit for yourselves. Just work hard to improve, and a glorious future will be yours.”
“Protagonists don’t die. Our main ‘protagonist’ has already died, and we’re just minor protagonists, so what can we do?” Su Siqing spoke in a level voice, yet her words were like scathing blows.
Sun Yuluo had no response to this.
He didn’t understand why such a beautiful female disciple would insist on being so scathing with her words.
Meng Wei turned to her with an accusatory expression. “That’s enough. What you’re saying is very disrespectful to our sect leader. Our sect leader’s deceased spirit must be very angry!”
“Alright alright… I’ll apologize to our sect leader,” Su Siqing said with a demeanor that suggested that she didn’t care, but a hint of sorrow appeared in her eyes when she faced the statue before her.
“I’m sorry, Sect Leader An Lin…” Su Siqing bowed in apology.
“That’s alright, I forgive you,” a gentle voice responded.
Su Siqing was momentarily stunned. What a familiar voice.
She raised her head, upon which her expression froze on her face.
All of the other disciples had also heard this voice, and they too looked ahead, upon which their mouths gaped open in shock.
