Chapter 1456: An Lin’s Return

An Lin was feeling completely suicidal.

After being chewed into mush by the little girl, his body was finally swallowed into her stomach.

To his horror, this was still not the end of his life as a blade of grass…

An Lin was in complete despair. How had he developed such a freakish life force!

It didn’t make sense!

The torture he was enduring now was countless times more terrifying than what he imagined.

The gods were not rewarding him by making him unkillable; they were instead building a basis for him to endure even more torture! What a sinister scheme!

An Lin entered the little girl’s stomach through her esophagus.

This was the first time he had entered another human, and this was such an adorable little girl too. However, this was not an enjoyable experience by any stretch of the imagination. This was infernal, hellish torture!

Her stomach acid began to dissolve An Lin’s body, and he felt like he was about to go insane from the sensation.

Immediately afterward, An Lin arrived at the little girl’s small intestines, where he was compressed and stirred up. Pancreatic acid then began to make his body disintegrate even further…

Most importantly, his sense of pain remained intact throughout this entire experience!

Could you imagine how terrifying and painful it would be for your body to be ground down into mush before being dissolved by various acids?

This pain had completely transcended beyond his imagination.

An Lin felt like his cognitive functions were being wrecked by this excruciating pain. He couldn’t think about anything except for how much pain he was in!

My God, was this the most terrifying level of hell?

Why was it so hard to be a blade of grass…

An Lin gradually descended into darkness.

It was as if he were falling into a bottomless abyss…

In the end, everything fell into nothingness.

He had chosen such a pure and refreshing image, so why was he being subjected to such terrifying torture? He was just a blade of grass…

An Lin was beginning to understand why such a serene and beautiful image was able to rival all of the other images in the river of time. From a pure pain perspective, this method of torture could even outstrip all of the other images in the river of time. This was pain that was far beyond what a human like him could imagine.

Ironically, the things that had inflicted this pain upon him were the most common things in this world, like the weather and insects. Furthermore, what made him experience the most excruciating agony and finally ended his life was the family of vegetarians.

It was all a series of rather mundane events, but those mundane events inflicted pain that was far from mundane upon An Lin’s body.

In this world, power was paramount. Without sufficient power, all he could do was wallow at the bottom of the food chain and be tortured to death by everything around him without any strength for retaliation.

There was no good or evil in this world. The only absolute constant was power.

Even the most kindhearted weakling in this world was prone to be trampled upon.

An Lin gained a new perspective on life from his miserable life as a blade of grass.

His sense began to return to him.

The sound of splashing water appeared.

A burst of irresistible suction power suddenly acted upon his body, trying to suck him into another image.

A thought suddenly occurred to An Lin, and he immediately activated his Void Body Mantra!

His body instantly became insubstantial, and the suction force gradually disappeared.

“Phew…”

An Lin heaved a sigh of relief. He had almost been sucked into another image. How terrifying!

That one image alone was almost enough to drive him insane. If he was forced to endure another image, he might be tipped over the edge!

An Lin abruptly rose into the air.

Boom!

A massive splash of water erupted.

An Lin appeared above the river of time before landing gently upon the shore.

“Mr. An Lin.”

“An Lin, are you alright?”

Chen Chen and Shangguan Yi made their way over to him with concern etched on their faces.

Aside from concern, their expressions also harbored a sense of admiration.

Anyone who dared to enter one of the images on the river of time was extremely bad*ss!

At the very least, Chen Chen and Shangguan Yi were not as brave as An Lin. They would rather be turned into Celestial Maidens than experience one of those images.

“I… I’m fine. I just need some time to recover…” An Lin instinctively recoiled, and his face paled at the sight of Chen Chen and Shangguan Yi.

Chen Chen was a little perplexed. “Mr. An Lin… Why do I get the feeling that you’re scared of me?”

“N-n-nonsense! Why would I be scared of you?” An Lin retorted in a feeble voice.

Chen Chen: “…”

“An Lin, what happened to you?”

Shangguan Yi was a little concerned, and she made her way over to him.

“Ah! Don’t come any closer! Don’t eat me!!!” An Lin instinctively hurtled back in retreat with an expression of shock and horror at the sight of Shangguan Yi’s moving lips.

Shangguan Yi: “… This is what you meant when you said you were fine?”

“What happened in that image?” Chen Chen was even more curious upon seeing this.

Both of them knew that An Lin must’ve endured some extremely horrendous torture for him to be in such an unstable mental state!

An Lin opened up some distance and swallowed an immortal pill to calm himself down before replying, “I turned into a blade of grass in there…”

“Grass?” Chen Chen murmured.

“Isn’t that pretty good?” Shangguan Yi asked.

“Good? Hehe…” A tragic smile appeared on An Lin’s face. “That was what I thought initially.”

Thus, An Lin recounted his horrific experience as a blade of grass. He told them about how he had been crushed by strong winds, baked dry by the harsh sun, drowned by torrential rain, ravaged by bugs, torn apart by microscopic organisms, incinerated by raging flames, sliced apart by a knife, fried by bubbling oil, eaten, and finally digested.

An expression of shock appeared again on Chen Chen’s perpetually calm face.

Shangguan Yi was completely dumbstruck as chills ran down her spine.

“Is this what a blade of grass should experience?” Chen Chen was unable to remain composed any longer. At the same time, he was beyond relieved that he had repressed the urge to sample one of the images for himself.

“An Lin…” Tears welled up in Shangguan Yi’s eyes. “It’s all my fault…”

She was starting to take the blame for everything again.

Tears also began to well up in An Lin’s eyes as he recalled his horrific experiences. “I don’t even know how I managed to remain sane for all these years…”

Right at this moment, a faint, pleasant aroma washed over him.

A soft and slightly cool body wrapped itself around him.

This was a hug from Sister Shangguan Yi.

“It’s alright, An Lin, everything’s alright now.” Shangguan Yi was like a mother crooning to her trembling child.

An Lin gradually found a sense of security in Shangguan Yi’s arms.

He slowly recovered from his horrific experience as a blade of grass and was struck by an onset of exhaustion.

“Yawn… I need to sleep.”

“Sleep tight. I’m here for you.”

Shangguan Yi spoke in a warm, reassuring voice.

Thus, An Lin fell into a deep sleep in her arms.
