Chapter 152: List of Intruders
The command center was a huge round room with screens occupying most parts of the wall. At first glance, the whole setup looked like it was built with high-level electrical equipment, but the whole facility was actually created and controlled with seals that are incorporated all over the compound. In the middle of the room, a blue crystal orb with a diameter of around 30 centimeters was floating in midair and had two people sitting around it, that were slowly injecting their chakra into it.
This was the heart of the Uzumaki compound’s defense system. When there was no one trying to attack the compound, two people would be injecting their chakra into it, but if things got dangerous, up to 25 people could simultaneously inject their chakra into the orb to defend the compound and could even coordinate massive attacks using the barriers surrounding the compound and the seals placed all over the compound itself.
Yuna found it a little weird that there were currently three people surrounding the orb instead of two, but since she would be speaking with the guard captain, Masato, anyway, that questions would be answered rather quickly.
“Welcome back, Yuna-sama.”
“Captain Masato. I heard there were some intruders?”
“Indeed. Although only 2 groups actually attacked us properly, there were 2 more that at least probed our dummy barrier, while quite a lot of people were satisfied with just watching from the distance and are in fact still doing so.”
Yuna nodded her head in understanding. She didn’t really pay much attention to it when she entered the compound since all of them were rather weak, but there were indeed a few people watching her. She guessed that this was the reason why three people were supplying chakra to the orb.
“Well, let’s start with the most important ones first: The two groups that actually attacked. I assume that one of these groups consists of Itachi and Kisame and the other one was probably part of Danzo’s Root, correct?”
Although Masato was slightly surprised that Yuna even knew about Itachi and Kisame, he didn’t show any of it on his face and kept a stoic expression.
“That is correct. Itachi and Kisame were the first ones to appear. At first, Itachi tried to analyze the dummy barrier with his Sharingan, but when that failed, his teammate cleaved through it with a sword that could absorb chakra.”
Yuna nodded her head in understanding. Although she didn’t fight Kisame herself, she heard about his weapon from Naruto.
“They tried to destroy the fourth layer for a while, but we managed to stop them from dealing any significant damage due to a total of ten people injecting chakra into the main core.”
Yet again, Yuna nodded her head. Although she wasn’t sure who came up with the term “main core”, she didn’t really care how people called it. Besides that, repelling 2 S-class shinobi with only 10 people was a really good outcome.
“Although we wanted to stop them from running away, Itachi used an unknown ability of his Sharingan to create black flames, that burned a hole into our barrier.”
“Black flames, huh? Probably one of the abilities he got after he evolved his Sharingan to the next step. I will compile some information about that in the next few days, so you know what we are dealing with. Did you, by any chance, keep a sample or two? I would like to take a look at it.”
To this question, Masato could only smile wryly, while taking a scroll out of his flak jacket.
“The fire was actually eating at our barrier and couldn’t be extinguished, so we had to seal it away.”
After he said that, he tossed the scroll towards Yuna, who caught it with interest shining in her eyes.
‘An inextinguishable flame, huh? I wonder what I can use this for.’
“What about the Root puppets?”
This time, Masato only shrugged his shoulders in indifference.
“On the first day, they spent quite a bit of time trying to analyze our barrier and I guess they failed to do so, since the next day they used quite a bit of firepower to break the dummy barrier, got trapped inside the actual barriers, tried to escape, and when they noticed that they couldn’t, they committed suicide. It was a total of ten people.”
“I really wonder how many people he has on his side. We already got rid of twenty so far and I really hope there isn’t much more than that. These small fries are really annoying. What about those that probed the barrier?”
“The first group that appeared had a total of 4 people in it, while the second group was only a single person. We can only guess their identities from the way their chakra felt, but the first group was probably from the Land of Water. Although they probed the barrier, they didn’t appear to have hostile intentions. As for the second one…he was…errr…weird.”
“Oh? What was so weird about him?”
“Well, he had two different chakra signatures. One of them felt very similar to Kakashi’s Sharingan, and the other one gave off a very similar feeling to…well… the trees in our compound.”
Yuna’s eyes widened a little when she heard that. She couldn’t help but think about how Danzo’s arm felt to her, but Danzo’s chakra signature didn’t feel like Kakashi at all.
‘Is it the original owner of Kakashi’s Sharingan? What was his name again? Obe…Obi…Obo…err…whatever. As far as I know, he is supposed to be dead. Is it that annoying Edo Tensei again? Did Danzo revive him and use him as one of his Root agents? Now that I have actually fought Hashirama, I know that Danzo’s arm contains parts of him, but is there a reason for Danzo to put Hashirama’s cells on someone that was revived with the Edo Tensei? Is that Obo person even working for Danzo? There is nothing I can do about that for now. Guess I should just capture him the next time he appears near our compound.’
“Show me a picture of the guy. He might be worth remembering.”
Masato had a wry smile on his face when Yuna gave that command. He had already expected her to want a picture of the person, so he had prepared one, but since the person was wearing a mask, he didn’t think Yuna would find much use for it. What he didn’t expect was, that as soon as Yuna saw the man in the picture massive amounts of killing intent exploded out of Yuna, which immediately took his breath away and caused his knees to buckle. Luckily, the killing intent vanished as fast as it came so he didn’t fall to the ground.
“The next time that person takes a single step into the sensing range of our barrier, inform me immediately, understood?”
Masato shivered at the uncharacteristic coldness in Yuna’s voice, but still managed to straighten his back and answer Yuna.
“Yes, Yuna-sama!”
Yuna, meanwhile, was confirming her guess with Kurama.
‘That is the guy who attacked you while I was born, isn’t it?’
[Very likely. Although the mask and the clothes are different, the overall feeling is very similar.]
‘Good. Let me look through your memories and compare the way that person moved all those years ago, to the way our intruder moved during his little appearance in front of the Uzumaki compound. If he thinks he can hide his identity from my eyes by changing his clothes, he is in for a rude awakening.’
[Sure. Although it isn’t as bad as Hashirama and Madara, I want to place a few punches in that person’s face as well.]
“Alright, what about the last group, Masato.”
Masato heaved a sigh of relief when he noticed that Yuna was back to normal and quickly continued his report.
“The last group consists of people who were only spying on us from afar. Like everyone else, they thought that our dummy barrier was the real one and didn’t notice the barrier that is used for detection. There were small groups of people from every major nation except for the Land of Wind. Additionally, we have one member of the Hyuga clan that is constantly watching us with the Byakugan. And Sasuke Uchiha walked past the compound a few times with his Sharingan active.”
That was pretty much how Yuna had expected it to be. Having no spies in a village as huge as Konoha is pretty much impossible and it was only natural that people would want to find out more about Konoha’s new clan. While she thought about what she just heard, she noticed something strange.
“You said that every major nation except the Land of Wind has some people watching us. Does that include the Land of Water? Or to be more precise, are the people that are simply observing us the same people that tried to probe our barrier, or are they, different people?”
Although Masato was slightly taken aback by that question, after rifling through a few documents, he had his answer.
“They are different people, but we assume that both groups are from the Land of Water.”
“Hehe, in that case, inform me as soon as possible if the people that probed our barrier appear again. I would like to have a word with them.”
“Yes, Yuna-sama.”
“As for the other people that are observing us…seriously, just ignore them. If they want to make contact that is fine, but I highly doubt that they would do that.”
‘Now that I think about it, considering how cohesive the Uzumaki clan is, it will be really hard for others to spy on us. Guess I should prepare someone convenient, so outsiders can use that person as a spy. Hehe, the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of…’
[DENIED!!!]
‘Ehhh? Come on, Kurama! You can’t do that to me. Let me say the whole thing.’
[NO!]
“Y-Yuna-sama? Are you alright?”
Yuna woke up from her internal thoughts as soon as she heard Masato’s voice and gave him an absentminded nod.
“Do you have anything else to report?”
Although Masato still wasn’t sure what just happened, he decided not to bother with it.
“No, that was everything.”
“Good. Keep up the good work.”
“Yes, Yuna-sama!”
While Masato went back to his work, Yuna walked towards the exit of the room, while still being slightly absentminded. She wasn’t sure why, but not finishing the whole idiom left her feeling slightly empty.
‘Come on, Kurama. Just once.’
[No!]
‘*Tsk* fine. I will just sneak it in when you aren’t paying attention.’
So, with a little bit of annoyance on her face, Yuna started walking upstairs to meet Hinata and Anko, who she hasn’t seen for a few days.
