Chapter 407: The Uzumaki Clan Compound’s Barrier
“[SHINRA TENSEI]”
As soon as Nagato said those words, a powerful gravity wave shot out of his hand towards the Uzumaki clan compound.
Within a split second, it reached the first layer of the Uzumaki clan’s defense barrier and… passed through it harmlessly.
The first and biggest layer only served as a sensing barrier. It had no defensive capabilities, nor was it visible to pretty much anyone. As such, it didn’t interact with Nagato’s attack in the slightest, while most people didn’t even notice the attack passing through it.
Moments later, the gravity wave crashed into the second layer, causing it to shatter instantly, resulting in a smug smile appearing on Nagato’s face.
His Rinnegan allowed him to see through barriers to some degree, so he could tell with a glance that his move would be able to break through it without a problem, destroying the Uzumaki clan compound and everything around it in the process.
Unfortunately for him, that was precisely the purpose of the second barrier. It was there to give people a visible target to attack while preventing them from sensing any other layers of the defense system.
Three years ago, even Kisame with his Samehada managed to destroy this layer with a single swing, so it was only obvious that Nagato would do the same with ease.
A third, fourth, and fifth barrier appeared, but yet again, they were crushed almost without any resistance. Those would regenerate themselves just seconds after Nagato’s attack struck and were mainly responsible for attacking any invaders from all sides. Unfortunately, their high regenerative power resulted in a somewhat low durability.
Well, “low” meant, in this case, that Itachi had to use Amaterasu to burn through one of them, allowing him and Kisame to flee from the Uzumaki compound three years ago. Additionally, Naruto upgraded parts of it quite a bit throughout the last three years, making it even stronger.
Finally, Nagato’s attack crashed into the sixth barrier, causing Yuna to sweat a little. This was where things might get a little nasty.
As soon as the two opposing forces met, the whole barrier started wobbling like crazy while seemingly going to break any moment now. Ripple-like patterns were sent from the point of impact all over the barrier and crashed into the ground where the barrier met the ground, sending dust flying everywhere.
Moments later, the wobbling stopped, and the ripple-like pattern seemed to wander back to the point of impact.
Nagato watched in bewilderment as the waves returned to the point of their origin and the surface of the barrier became calm again.
“Imposi…*urgh*”
Before Nagato could fully grasp what was going on, a ridiculously powerful force slammed into him, sending him hurling into the sky.
The sixth barrier had the ability to reflect attacks, making the place between the third to fifth and sixth an absolute hell to endure.
Imagen having three separate sealing arrays hurling projectiles at you, while another one is constantly reflecting those projectiles and your own attacks back at you.
This was also why the Uzumaki clan people were slightly worried about Konoha. Those reflected projectiles will not be stopped by any barriers, so they would freely fly all over Konoha if someone actually managed to invade that far in person.
A design flaw? Maybe. But between the safety of Konoha and the safety of the Uzumaki clan, Yuna and Naruto obviously favored the second option.
As for why Yuna was sweating a little when Nagato’s attack hit the sixth layer, she wasn’t utterly certain that it could endure the attack. She only had what Hisoka told her as a reference for what Nagato was capable of, after all.
As for what would have happened if the sixth layer couldn’t endure the attack… Well, all that stored up energy would have to go somewhere, so… Let’s just say that the area around the Uzumaki compound would have looked a little bit differently after that attack.
Although the damage would have been far from what Nagato’s attack would have done initially, Yuna’s wallet certainly would have taken quite a big hit if she had to rebuild the destroyed buildings around the Uzumaki compound. Well, the barrier almost broke, resulting in a small shockwave erupting from it, which might have damaged some structures, but things were still within reason.
On a side note, the Uzumaki clan compound would have been fine no matter what happened to the sixth layer. After all, there was the seventh one.
This layer was solely focused on defensive power and could even endure someone dropping a meteor or two on it. Considering what Hisoka told Yuna about the possible future, making it that strong was honestly the only sensible choice.
“See, Tsunade, I told you everything will be fine. Well, there are a few cracks in the surrounding buildings, but that honesty isn’t a big deal. Don’t you have that wood-style weirdo lurking around? Just make him fix that, and everyone is good to go.”
“Wasn’t that, like, really close?”
“Yeah, it was, you know.”
“Hahaha, the compounds surroundings almost were blasted to bits, you know.”
“Yeah, that sure was lu… *cough* as expected of Yuna-sama, she perfectly predicted the opponent’s strength, you know.”
“Naturally! Yuna-sama knew from the start that the barrier would hold out, you know.”
“Just like frying beans with lightning, you know!”
“Indeed, just like that, you know!”
“””As expected of Yuna-sama, you know!”””
At first, the Uzumaki clan people surrounding Tsunade continued their endless rambling conversations, but after Yuna sent them a glare that promised weeks, or maybe even months without ramen, they instantly changed their tune and started flattering her instead.
Naturally, Yuna noticed yet another improperly used phrase popping up but decided to ignore it for now. What can she say? At least they were trying.
Naturally, Tsunade noticed the exchange between the Uzumaki clan members and Yuna as well but decided to stay quiet about it.
Since they were on top of the Hokage Tower, she could more or less see the whole village from where she sat, and since she had her summons spread throughout the entire village, she could pretty much tell how many people were injured by the attack as well.
In conclusion: almost no damage to the buildings and not a single seriously injured person. Did she really have any room to complain about an outcome like that? Obviously not.
“Well, I’m leaving, Tsunade. The enemy is not entirely defeated yet, so it’s time to finish this.”
Tsunade simply nodded her head as two ice wings grew from Yuna’s back, and she jumped into the air. Tsunade could only smile wryly when she saw Yuna flying away into the distance.
“Flight, huh? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, huh..”
