Chapter 203: Unveiling even more Secrets
Yuna felt the weird atmosphere in the room after Hisoka left, but decided to do nothing about it for now. Hinata, Anko, and Kurama clearly weren’t happy that there was apparently some TV series about their lives in another world and Yuna really couldn’t blame them for that. The person to break the silence first was Hinata.
“Is what she said really true, Yuna? How is it possible for our lives to be just some TV series?”
Hearing Hinata’s questions, Yuna couldn’t help but chuckle a little.
“What she said was true or she at least believed it to be true. I can only find out whether she was lying or not. If what she said was false, but she genuinely believed that it was true, then there is nothing I can do about it.”
Hinata thought about what Yuna just said and nodded her head in understanding despite it not making her happy. Yuna, however, wasn’t done with her explanation yet.
“As for your second question, our lives obviously aren’t just some TV series. Our lives are our own, and it doesn’t matter what someone else has or hasn’t seen or heard about us. Haven’t you seen how she acted? Despite supposedly knowing the future, she was caught completely off-guard by everything we did.”
Hinata thought about what Yuna said and then nodded her head in agreement.
“Indeed, she had no control over the situation and was easily pushed into a corner. You once said that prophecies are unreliable, so I guess we should treat her knowledge about the future in a similar fashion.”
Yuna nodded in agreement when she heard Hinata’s suggestion and after a short moment of silence, it was Anko’s turn to ask a question.
“But isn’t it a pity? Things would be much easier if we knew what would happen in the future. No matter what, we should still be able to get some use out of her knowledge, right?”
“Well, it’s not like we can’t use any of it. Information about key figures, especially their secrets and abilities. Information about important events should also be useful to some degree and lastly, she might have some information about secret hideouts as well. Additionally, it should have been quite a while since she has seen all that information, so we should also be cautious about how much she actually remembers and how accurate her memories are. All in all, her knowledge isn’t very reliable but should be useful nonetheless. That is, of course, only if what she said is actually true and she isn’t simply delusional.”
Hinata and Anko both nodded their heads in agreement, but Yuna could tell that both of them still had something they wanted to ask. After a few moments of awkward silence, Hinata and Anko glanced at each other before Hinata took a deep breath and started speaking again.
“Who are you really, Yuna?”
Hearing Hinata’s question, Yuna couldn’t help but chuckle a little.
“What a weird question to ask after we spent so much time together. I am Yuna Uzumaki, the one and only.”
A pout appeared on Hinata and Anko’s faces when they heard Yuna’s answer, which caused a smirk to appear on Yuna’s.
“You know that this isn’t what I meant, Yuna!”
“Ohh? It isn’t? Then what did you mean?”
“I-I wanted to know whether you are just like Hisoka.”
Yuna’s smirk grew even wider as she answered Hinata’s question.
“Of course not, I am much better.”
“Nooo, w-what I mean is…a-a-are…”
*BANG*
“DAMNIT HINATA, GET A GRIP!!! Yuna, are you a person with memories from her past life!?”
Seeing Hinata struggling to ask the question properly, probably due to not wanting a proper answer in the first place, and Yuna constantly avoiding giving a proper answer, Anko snapped. She smacked her hands on the table and asked Yuna a direct question that couldn’t be easily answered in a non-committing way.
Yuna’s smirk grew even further when Anko finally snapped. Hinata and Anko did occasionally probe her about how and where she got all of her knowledge from, but they only did so in a rather off-handed manner, so Yuna never bothered giving them a proper answer. Now, however, when Anko finally asked the question properly, she decided to answer it properly.
“Yes, I am.”
“”…””
“Wait, you told them just like that?”
The moment Kurama’s words left his mouth, he knew he messed up, as Hinata and Anko’s death glares landed on him immediately.
“”You knew about this, Kurama!?””
A shiver went through Kurama’s body as he stood up from Hinata’s lap with lightning speed and jumped towards the door.
“Haha, I almost forgot, I still have something to do. See you later.”
Although Hinata and Anko were glaring at him as he walked through the door, they decided to not do anything for now, simply because they had a more important target in front of them.
“”Why have you never told us!?””
“Because you never asked.”
“”…””
“…”
After a short awkward silence, Anko was the first to resume speaking.
“We asked you plenty of times.”
Yuna could only snort when she heard that.
“Asked me plenty of times? Do you mean those non-committed, half-questions you would occasionally probe me with? “Sometimes you appear to be much older than you are supposed to be, Yuna.”, “Wow, I really would like to know how you managed to find out about that, Yuna”, and so on, and so on. Please don’t speak nonsense, Anko. You know exactly what kind of person I am and if you wanted to know something, you should have simply asked.”
After Yuna’s scolding, an annoyed pout appeared on Anko’s face, but she didn’t argue with her. Unfortunately, it was exactly like Yuna just said. Hinata and Anko could have asked Yuna about the truth at any time and the chances of Yuna actually answering truthfully were rather high, but both of them feared hearing about Yuna’s secret since it might change the dynamic between the trio, which was not something they wanted.
Although Hinata somewhat agreed that dancing around the question for so long was somewhat silly, there was still something else that was bothering her.
“Why didn’t you tell us about it on your own? Isn’t your past life a big part of you? I would have liked to know more about it.”
Yuna pondered Hinata’s question and then just shrugged her shoulders.
“To me, my past life doesn’t matter anymore. I had a long life and a satisfying death. That chapter of my life is over. Additionally, I knew that you two weren’t dancing around the topic without a reason. You didn’t want to know about my secret, because you didn’t want our relationship to change, and although I very much doubt that it would happen, I respected your thoughts and waited for you to make the first step.”
Hinata and Anko both nodded their heads, while a smile appeared on their faces. They were just about to thank Yuna for waiting when she added another sentence.
“Oh, and it was rather fun seeing you squirming around for such a long time, as well, hahaha!”
Hinata and Anko gnashed their teeth in anger, but both of them took a deep breath to push their anger back down. They still had more questions for Yuna, so their revenge had to wait for now.
