Chapter 744: Just Say the Word and I’ll Do It

She told Mobai that she was the reincarnation of Shen Qingdai’s soul, but she didn’t tell him about the incident with the dumplings, because she knew his character. If he ever found out, he would kill Xi Jin and perhaps annihilate Dongshu Nation, no matter what.

Xi Lin nodded. She slowly stood up by holding onto a pillar. Then, she turned around and looked at the unfamiliar face before her and found it hard to speak. It seemed like she couldn’t say anything else other than sorry.

“Dai’er, I will advise Imperial Brother not to marry Shen Yunya.” Additionally, she must also kill Jiang Ying and Shen Yunya to avenge Dai’er, no matter what.

As for Dai’er’s identity, she could only conceal it and say sorry.

Feng Tianlan nodded and said, “Sister Lin, there’s one more thing I want you to help investigate.”

“Just say the word and I’ll do it.” Come hell or high water.

“I want you to investigate the deaths of my father and mother. Back then, they left with the emperor and then came back dead.”

After listening to Feng Tianlan, Xi Lin looked at her in shock and asked, “What happened?”

Recalling how she’d found out about this from Shen Yunya before her death, Feng Tianlan couldn’t help but feel hate well up in her heart. She said, “My father and mother also died under tragic circumstances. My uncle Shen Bokang was an accomplice. Because I was still young at the time, I was unaware of many things. I want you to see if you can find out anything from the emperor.”

“Okay.” Xi Lin’s face paled. She’d never thought that there was so much more to what had happened. Shen Bokang had always seemed so kind and calm. But now…

How many layers had to be peeled back from someone’s heart before one saw the dark viciousness inside it?

“Sister Lin, don’t call me Dai’er again. Just call me Tianlan. But I have no plans to restore my identity as a woman for the time being. If anything comes up, just go to Bailan Alliance to look for me.”

Xi Lin knew what the consequences could be, so she nodded and agreed. “Okay.”

“In that case, I’ll leave first. You must remember not to mention me to anyone and reveal that I’m Dai’er. I’ve only told you and Mobai,” Feng Tianlan urged her again, for she was still worried.

Xi Lin looked up at Feng Tianlan, who already looked like her normal self again. It was as if the cruel incident she’d recounted just now had happened to someone else, but she alone knew the kind of suffering she carried in her heart.

Feng Tianlan walked out of the main hall and was immediately carried away by Si Mobai to leave.

Xi Lin, on the other hand, sank in the chair. Her whole face was still deathly pale. Apparently, she hadn’t yet recovered from the shock of the news. She felt shame and resentment in her heart, as well as deep despair.

She’d never thought there’d come a day like now where she’d owe Dai’er so much. She thought that if it hadn’t been for Imperial Brother wanting to marry Shen Yunya, perhaps no one would’ve spoken about this matter in her lifetime.

An unknown amount of time had passed, and now it was already noon. The blazing hot sun shone brightly high in the sky. “Princess, the prince has come.”

“Imperial Brother?” Xi Lin slowly came back to her senses and raised her head to look outside the hall.

A tall, slender figure clad in blue was at the big red palace door, and was slowly walking over to her. There was a warm smile on his face, but his eyes looked hollow, and they weren’t as bright as they usually were.

“Lin’er.” Xi Jin saw that she was still in a daze. She didn’t regain her composure, even when he stood right in front of her. He couldn’t help but frown.

“Huh?” Xi Lin suddenly came to her senses and waved her hands, gesturing for the palace maid to leave. She forced herself to perk up and said, “Imperial Brother, what brings you here at this time?”

Why hadn’t he come earlier? If he’d been here earlier, he could’ve seen Dai’er, and perhaps she could’ve changed his mind, right? It could still be possible?
